Question for those that tinted windows?

Is the factory window tint a film that needs to be removed prior to applying tint? Looks like the glass is darker, but to me doesn't look like a film.

I didn't have mine removed, assuming it's a film. The mobile tinter I used was able to put the new stuff on top of the old and match it so all windows. The front half is as dark as the back.

What's the going rate for ceramic tint? (Ball park)

 

That's what I have. I paid $360 to have all the windows done, including the "Eyebrow" on the front wind shield.

 

Rear glass is dyed, not tinted. I had my fronts done at 30%, rears (over dyed glass) at 70% and sunroof at 40%. All using Xpel XR Plus and it set me back roughly $690. Huge, huge difference in heat as well as glare.

 

I have 5% rear 20% front air 80 windshield all ceramic. 7 bills i think.

 

1.5 years ago, every single window tint (30) including the windshield (70) was just under $1,000. Also XR+

Vegas heat is nasty might need to drop to 20..

The doggies have put a couple scratches too..

 

Got a quote of 750.00 "top tier" ceramic including windshield. We'll see how it looks tomorrow.

 

^Roll down all four windows during traffic stops so the cop won't take issue with the tint.

 

The only thing about tinting your front windshield using ceramic if you wear polarized sunglasses is it "might" have the rainbow effect. I didn't do my front windshield as the rear windshield shows that rainbow effect when I have my sunglasses on.

I got a tint ticket for having 35% on my drivers/passenger side windows (California). I bought some ceramic 50% to redo them myself, just haven't gotten around to it.

In TX, we can do whatever we want on the rears, the front 2 sides can only be 25% and windshield below the AS1 line has to be clear

 

My front is ceramic tinted, sunglasses are polarized and I don’t get those weird pattern that the other windows have.

I believe it’s because those are tempered glass and the windshield is laminated.

Edit: I mixed up the checkerboard look of tempered glass with the rainbow effect which seems like I do have.

 

Full XPEL Ceramic all the way around including the sunroof set me back $800 CAD. I will never not have my sunroof tinted ever again. The cabin is so much cooler in the summer with good window tint.

 

I had the windshield done on the wife’s previous suv. I bought non polarized sun glasses to keep in the ride for this reason.

I need the get the 4R done. Has Expel prime on the fronts. Need to redo them along with the rest with ceramic all around.

 

Do you know what % the rears are showing with the 70% over factory glass?

 

With 70% on the rears and 30% on the fronts they match, so guessing that means it lets 30% through on the rear.

 

Quick picks. 35% on the driver/passenger, 50% windshield and sunroof. 60% over factory privacy glass on the trophy doors/minivan hatch.

 

Windshield makes a huge difference on heat soak of dash. I notice it while driving into sun with it hitting me. Legs got hot before now i dont notice it.

 

Hey, Quick question. I was told years ago to never do the moonroof due to it could over heat and crack. Was there any concern, or notice of that when they did it? If I could do the moonroof on my 2019 and the front of course, life would be so much better in there in this extreme heat I deal with in SC sometimes.

 

How many did this, in any shape or form, themselves?

 

I had my daughter's Rav4 re-tinted with ceramic, removing the non-ceramic on the front two windows and covering everything except the windshield was $500. I was so impressed with the difference in the heat coming through the windows after , I had them do my 4runner, another $500. Well worth it in my opinion.

 

I had my wife’s MDX moonroof tinted for 12 years with no issues while we had it.

 

Thought about it, but didn't want to commit the time doing so. Plenty of pre-cut kits out there and the process isn't that difficult. I've done residential homes in the past but never a car... Yet. Will probably do the old Yaris i inherited in the near future.

 

No difference than tinting any other window on the vehicle. Perhaps in the past it may have been an issue due to tint quality. The shop I used it the highest rated in the city. If there was any concern I am sure they would have said something. I will never not tint my sunroof ever again.
