Bought the fumoto valve and hose for my 22. Never installed it as I took the measurement of it and it came about a 1/4 inch from my RCI skid plate opening. Not an issue at all if you do moderate off roading but we are about to head out to Moab in 2 weeks. My fear was catching a perfect bolder and sheering it off. Probably wouldn’t have happened but you don’t know my luck.

    paid $42
Will sell for $35 (includes shipping)

Good call. For the way you use the 4runner, it’s really an unnecessary risk.

Even if there’s only a tiny chance it gets busted off, the consequences are pretty much catastrophic. Even more so if you’re in the middle of nowhere. But honestly, I don’t think it’s a tiny chance of happening if it’s that close to the skidplates. When you hit or drag skid plates, they flex, and not necessarily dent.

It doesn’t make sense to introduce a risk where none existed before, especially for the small gain in convenience (measured in seconds per 5000 miles).

AMEN. We are out in the wilderness camping etc. We are often in places where there is nobody around for miles, I have to eliminate all unnecessary risks

I completely agree. Was thinking of picking it up but the savings vs risk isn’t worth it. Besides, I beat the crap out of my 4RN and on my latest trip to Bama broke a tie rod in the middle of nowhere. Let’s just say stock tie rods gone, now using the Apex rods which are near impossible to break. Also they are apparently the only company who makes a set lol.

Oddly enough the guy who came out and replaced it on the trail showed me it has actually been cracked before.

I wonder, would a ValvoMax give you any more clearance?

Not exactly the best sales pitch  I´m somewhat in the same boat as you. I´m about to install a RCI Skid Plate and thought exactly what you are thinking. I´m also looking at the Votex but I read a lot of folks are getting leakage. I guess I´m sticking to the old and tried OEM drain plug. Maybe the mess that waits me will change my mind. But I have a limited and taking of the OEM skid plate is a major PITA, I will be so glad when I put on the RCI!!!
For those taking notes, the Fumoto is the best choice after the OEM plug. Unless you want to deal with the Votex and some silicone, that seems to be the solution for it´s leakage.
