You should be getting twice as many miles out of a set of tires. Is your alignment off? Are you entering burnout competitions?

Alignment appears fine based on the paperwork I was given when I put them on. Could it gotten out of whack since they were installed, maybe? I do drive New England roads.

If you want to get long life out of your tires, and great fuel mileage besides, go with either the Michelin Defender LTx M/S or AT2 tires.

Something seems odd. You shouldn’t be going through tires that fast. Probably should get an alignment after you get the new tires put on.

I am indeed getting an alignment with the new tires. I did when these were installed.

Not sure how much it matters or what the real threshold is for new tires but I was not ready to replace these. But as I have the "unrepairable" nail in the sidewall of one and they are at 5/32 I decided just pull the trigger now. I have no idea how much longer they would have been good/useful, but at 5/32 I can't imagine I would have gotten anywhere near another ~10-15k out of them...

I have never gotten 50k out of a set of tires in my ~45 years of driving and car/truck ownership. So, I appear to be the common denominator here.

I have never gotten 50k from any tire ether. But i also drive in the NE area including NH/VT/NY, lots of twisty roads and breaking. I also drive spiritedly. I did get ~45k on the OEM Duelers and another ~40k on my old Duratracs. Cant wait to see how my New Duratrac RT's do.

All my car tires would only go 25k or so at best.

Id recommend looking at the goodyear wrangler at/s. They are cheaper then most tires.

Apparently I am not very bright. I never thought about the twisty/back road part of my driving... Probably ~75%+ of my driving is on the back roads of NH and ME.

And I am sure I am in the 'hard on tires' camp. Yet, I am the first person to bitch when my wife is hard on the brakes and taking on ramps too fast. Go figure...

Yep, picked it up and headed out for a test run. Very little road noise, it handles/tracks nice. Hard to quantify ‘quiet’ as the Wildpeaks must have been more worn than I thought. New tires are always nice, but this seems exponentially quieter. I have been complaining for the last several months about the road noise and tires…

Alignment was definitely off. Printer was down on the alignment machine, but we looked at it on the screen. The ‘alignment diagram’ showed the left side all red along with the middle section red as well (whatever that means). Based on that I am thinking I want to check it again sooner rather than later. Not sure what the right interval should be for that…?

Thanks for all the info and feedback!

Here is an excellent picture where you can get a really great idea of the how the new tires look. Haha. Not a bad place to test drive to though... I can take a better one(s), but certainly nothing earth shattering, stock size, front/rear spacer lift on a pretty generic 2018.

forgot to add, was traveling back from NC, red is bad and could be another reason why youre burning through tires. Id get a proper alignment asap since you got new tires. Aligmnent specs should all be in the green and see as much caster # you can get.

If you are honest about your stated use case, the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 tires are you best bet by far. I replaced my stock tires at 5100 miles and could not be happier with the Michelins! Smooth and stable ride and they will do everything you want for those conditions with the best mileage warranty in the business.

no doubt a good tire, but for some folks like me running 285/70/17 in SL, they only come in a LT version in E load and are around $350 each. Ive run Falken WP AT3 on my 2007, 2011 and my 2022 and only imo, they cant be beat for price and performance. Now the Rubitreks line Ive heard are just as good in performance, quieter and better in price compared to most ATs. My next tires will be the Rubitreks in 285/70/17 in SL. I can get them from my local shop for $1046 (thats installed, balanced, 30 day satisfaction refund, road hazard warranty, free lifetime roations/flat repairs/wheel balancing), hard to beat that imo.

this was 10” of snow on my front lawn in my 2011 using falken wildpeaks at3 in 285/70/17. Went through is like it was 1” deep.

Yep, everything was green after this latest alignment, I wasn't clear that I did have the alignment done.

That said, I am thinking I do not want to go too long before doing another one just as a sanity check. I also want to do the next one at a different shop just to be sure... Not sure when I should do that relative to mileage and or time. Maybe spring makes sense after a long winter of New England road conditions etc.

That was my experience with the Wildpeaks in the snow, slush etc. as well. And my total for the Rubitreks installed with everything you mentioned plus the alignment was $1,070.00. Hard to beat that indeed...

Maybe if I can dial in my driving habits (not sure at my age those habits will change much) and periodically check the alignment I may get the types of mileage out of this set that you guys are getting.

Could also be the roads themselves. Rougher roads (and gravel) will wear out tires quicker, too.

agreed on above. Also keeping checks on tire pressures (32 psi cold all year around) helped me get the most mileage out of my tires.

Just for curiosity I did a little comparison on tires. (Sorry I use 285/70R17 on my 4Runners)

I was surprised to see Yoko Geolander AT4 is a 33in tire even SL rated (Most 285/70R17 33in and more are normally E rates), yet just 44lbs. About 10 lbs lighter than standard load Falken AT4W. Seem to have pretty good siping for my winter needs and have 3peak winter rating.

I'm curious how the tread width compares; I find tread width and tread depth (which all are the same here) seem to correlate with tire weight. Not commenting on which is better, I just look for reasons for weight differences.
