Are EVs really dead?

Doubtful. VW would just put the blame back on you and claim it was due to your driving habits or some other BS. The consumer almost always gets screwed.

 

EVs are gonna keep selling at the mid range and higher end to well off suburbanites who have garage space and hate going to the gas station, which admittedly can get shady even in good parts of town especially at night.

But at the low end, Toyota is selling Corolla Hybrids at the 25k mark that gets over 50mpg and widely acknowledged as a bullet proof automobile. That's a banging value for people who care about per-mile cost. No EV can touch that at that price point.
