I was looking for a set of sliders that offered some decent protection and also stuck out enough to use as a step. After looking around a bit, I decided to save some money and made a set myself.

I used 1-1/2" x 3/16" wall square tubing, a 1/4" thick steel step/web, and a 1/4" steel mounting plate that bolts to the frame. I made some mistakes along the way, but I'm happy with the end result. It was a fun learning experience getting these things to work with kdss. This is the end result...

Nicely done! The flat sides are nice when it comes time to refinish them.

Now be honest, how much did you spend? You can plead the fifth. :D

Lol thanks man! Off the top of my head, they were in the neighborhood of $400 CAD in steel and $100 in paint. The many swear words during fab were free. I work in the steel industry, so the supplies were easy to come by

I usually just count raw material, don’t count supplies or paint, and then subtract 20 percent when I estimate how much it cost me to build things. Keeps me motivated to keep trying to build my own things lol.

Got any pics of the mounting plates?

That's some impressive work! You would think they were made by an actual company.

Thanks for the warm welcome all!

Here's one pic showing a mount as I was etching the metal in prep for paint. Ignore the mess, I had things thrown everywhere at this point. I can't take much credit for the mounting plates - I found a guy on Etsy selling a dxf for them and I used that to laser cut them. (And I guess that dxf added another $50 or so to the build cost lol)
