I've added a lot of weight to my 4Runner over the last year with a lift, winch, steel rear bumper and larger tires. I'm concerned that the little jack that comes with these rigs isn't going to be of much use when needed. I'm currently looking at the Safe Jack kits and also the Pro Eagle off road jacks. I like the lifting capacity of the 6 and 8 ton bottle jacks, but I will soon be 70 years old and don't much like having to crawl up under my rig to place the bottle jack. What have all you folks gone with for a reliable and easy to use jack that stays in your 4Runner?

    1. If your bumpers have hi-lift jacking points and you have sliders, this minimizes crawling under the vehicle. Use with cordless impact: https://agm-products.com/collections/jacks/products/manual-jack

    2. The HF aluminum jack @TrailSpecial22 linked can be converted to a lightweight big-wheel off road jack with a 911 Motorsports kit: https://www.911motorsports.net/Off-road-Jack-Conversion--Pittsburgh--Combo-Kit_p_87.html

For something that stays in the 4Runner, the new Badland 1.5T jack is pretty neat.

I just carry some foot long hard wood 2x8's and a couple wood blocks to use with my stock jack.

I don't use either. But as a recommendation to the OP who doesn't want to crawl on the ground, the AGM jack is lighter and faster (when driven by a cordless impact). The AGM jack is popular on competition rigs (Ultra4, etc.) for this reason.

There's no benefit with 4000lb capacity vs. 3000lb on a 5th gen 4Runner, only drawbacks of a heavier jack and slower lifting.

I tend to agree. Two points though.
    1. I’ve never heard of AGM before. But ARB is famous for their quality.
    2. Every video I’ve seen for the AGM jack shows it lifting a UTV and not an SUV.

    1. The whole point of an internet forum is to educate you on products you're ignorant about ;) The ARB jack, aside from being a heavy monstrosity, is known to leak right out of the box.

    2. Meh. 3000lb is 3000lb, enough to lift half of a 5th gen off road. Being a mechanical screw jack, it's more dependable than hydraulic jacks (including the ARB), which is usually a leaky O-ring away from the vehicle crashing down on you.

    jack stands for secondary safety.

I agree that a screw jack can be more reliable than a hydraulic jack. I wonder, when choosing a weight rating for a jack, if there’s a safety factor to be considered. Does anyone know what the rating is for the factory jack?

Factory jack rating is 4000lbs. Its a good bottle jack and will have no issues when you need it to change a tire.

I highly doubt a quality company worth 300 billion would put in a safety concern jack. Now if your using it for servicing, oil changes, tire rotations often i would certainly upgrade.

Thanks for all the comments and recommendations. I decided to get the Pro Eagle 2 Ton OG jack. It doesn't have the big wheels, but after doing some measuring it will fit in one side of my homemade rear storage box that I built last year. That way I can also use it in my garage for maintenance as needed. I will consider the Safe Jack at a later date if necessary.
