Add Rear Hatch Pull Strap-2011 Limited?

First night on the new sleeping platform I built I realized there is no hatch pull strap on the hatch. I see some years/models came with it but not mine. Anyone add one to theirs?

 

Yes it's easy to do. There's a little plastic plug on your hatch door. Remove that and you'll find a bolt. That's where I attached my strap to.
I cut a piece of black ratchet strap to a length I liked, melted the ends with a light to prevent fraying and melted a hole in it with a hot screwdriver to run the bolt through it.

Sorry I don't have a pic but I'm sure you can imagine.

Also it's pretty easy to add a small push button back there to pop the hatch from the inside, as well as a momentary two way switch to roll down and up the rear window.
I did that and mounted them on the hatch panel up in the corner. It's great for when I'm camping in the back.

 

There should be a blank for it if it's not installed.

There's a 10mm head / 6mm thread bolt there which the strap is bolted underneath via a stamped bracket. The strap is sewn to the bracket so you'd have to engineer something if yours is missing.

At various times I had my strap replaced with a Warn winch strap, red and kind of adventurey looking; and a paracord strap I wove onto the bracket.

like many have said, remove beauty cover, beneath is a 10mm bolt.

I have no plug there. Only near the middle.

 

yeah ... it seems somehow some models for some reason have different plastic step 1; take the panel off; is there a provision to adhere a strap

Thanks for the info. Not going to spend much if anything on this. I may pull the panel and poke around to see if I can attach something.

 

That's the one. Pop that plastic cover off and there should be a bolt you can use to attach a strap to

My 2011 sr5 didn't come with a strap either.
I just popped the cover off and attached a piece of strap to a bolt.
Also I don't remember if there was a bolt already there or If I put one in.
Also in the top corner is a window switch and door pop switch I added.

Yes it stays in place. Been on for a few years now.

I don't. Sorry.
In the fall I'll take the panel off to spray some fluid film in the bottom of the hatch and I'll take some pics and write up how I did it.
But basically I used a voltmeter to figure out what wire does what.

 

Is yours a Limited trim?

Ah. I believe the locking mechanism is different due to the smart key on the Limited.

 

Hmm. Maybe so. But still there's wires back there. If your handy with a volt meter you can test each wire. It's just a matter of putting voltage to the right one
