5th gen solution for backpacker's spare key?

Did you able the fob’s battery saving mode?

 

No, I just wanted to make sure I couldn't lock the fob inside.

 

Buy some pants with a zipper pocket.

 

I keep a spare tethered in a backpack on any hike.

 

Post #4 is probably the best answer for then storing the key somewhere near/on the car. You can also use a faraday bag to block the signal and hide the bag. Someone else mentioned a similar answer and here is an example on Amazon:

It just goes to show you. It takes all kinds. Some folks on here aren’t satisfied with convenience of the smart key fob and would prefer the wallet key or key integration with their phone. Others lament the existence of the smart key and would prefer a physical key to unlock and start the car.

I thought of doing this mod but came to the realization that I would probably never use it.

 

I conect my FOB to the sm lanyard in side my deuter packs top pocket. Keeps it pretty clean/dry
