    Oooh look, another mod.....

CD players have gone the way of the tape deck and the 8 track player. I can't think a vehicle that has been produced in the last 5yrs with a CD player. Put your cd's on a USB drive and plug the USB into your 4Runner. That's what I do. I have a few thousand songs on my USB drive. It's a small thumb drive, so you barely notice it's plugged in.

Do you own a smart phone? If not, it's probably time to step up. You do know that you can access all of the books in the world for nominal fees that download directly to your device? You then connect via this crazy thing called "Bluetooth" to your head unit in your car. You can usually even connect by a cable if you choose. But please, if you find a Sony Walkman CD player to velcro to your dashboard, please, please, post a picture!

You got a 4R one year too late. 2019 still had a CD player...

I've tried a couple of CD player gadgets for my wife's 2018 Kia. Neither was a viable solution.

The other option is a new head unit. Crutchfield can get you set up. Yes, you can still buy CD players.

I look back on my Palm PDA days fondly!

But not quite as feasible for my use.

Anyways, if I wanted to be cheap I’d consider an FM transmitter and portable CD player combo but it’s up to you how much you want to put into migrating to a flash drive versus working around it and continuing with CDs.

I created a petition to have Toyota put tape decks & CD players back in their vehicles. I used Generative AI to write it. I know that angers some people (@McSpazatron), which is why I did it!

    The Issue
In recent years, as part of the ongoing technological advancement, many vehicle manufacturers, including Toyota, have removed CD players and tape decks from their automobile models. However, this decision disregards a significant portion of loyal customers who hold immense value for these seemingly retro features. It is not only nostalgic but also necessary for many who own extensive collections of CDs and tapes, enjoying their superior sound quality and reliability.

Digital music formats are undoubtedly convenient, but they come with limitations. Streaming services require internet connectivity and subscriptions, which are not always available or affordable for everyone. CDs and tapes, on the other hand, provide a tangible music experience that many cherish. They don't suffer from buffering issues, compression losses, or data overcharges, offering uninterrupted, high-quality audio playback.

Furthermore, including CD players and tape decks can serve as a differentiator for Toyota, catering to both modern technology enthusiasts and traditional music lovers. Many of these individuals are long-term customers who prefer Toyota for its reputation in reliability and innovation. By reintroducing these features, Toyota would not only honor its commitment to customer satisfaction but also expand its market appeal.

Toyota prides itself on leading the way in automotive technology and customer satisfaction. Taking a step to incorporate diverse audio options acknowledges the varied preferences of their customer base. It embraces inclusivity, bridging the gap between past and present innovations in vehicle entertainment systems.

We urge Toyota to listen to its customer community and reinstate CD players and tape decks in their car models. This change will simultaneously celebrate tradition and innovation, enhancing Toyota’s commitment to diverse customer needs. Please sign this petition to support this initiative and to encourage Toyota to bring back CD players and tape decks in their vehicles.

C’mon man! Get with the times! I don’t listen to MP3s CDs, tapes, or 8 track any more. I only listen to AI generated music…particularly the free-form jazz sub-genre.

And I like it fresh, so I don’t listen to pre-recorded AI music…I prefer to have it continually generate new music for me, calculated and streamed live to my 4runner via starlink. I keep the AI stream running even when I’m not in the car…just because I want it have that free-form funk atmosphere whenever I get in.

Funny, the CD changer in the link isn’t one from back in the day that was physically connected to the head unit…it seems like it’s a retro/throwback replica that transmits the signal to an FM station.

And apparently, it was retro so long ago, that it’s discontinued! Yeah, that makes me feel a bit old lol.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I was going to roast you two for being old, then I realized that I did this too. Then I counted back how long ago it was that I was in high school and now I feel really old and sad. :(
