    Hi all,

I just got gifted a 2010 4runner limited by my dad and i was thinking about getting new wheels and tires for it as a first mod. But when i asked my dad if there would be any issues doing this he said i wouldn't be able to because something about the wheelbase being too thin or something. Is this true? If not does anyone have some recommendations for wheel and tire combos? Not looking to break the bank so around 1700-2000 for a set of 4 would be ideal

    Thanks!

    What’s your goal for it?

I’d recommend you keep it stock unless you have a specific goal in mind.

But you can absolutely change up tires and wheels especially if the former are worn out.

But you’ll have to learn about wheel fitment and all the factors involved as well as tires. Good learning opportunity.

my 2011 SR5 has 2” Bilstein 5100 lift in front on stock SR5 rims running Falken wildpeak at3 in 285/70/17 and rear has 1” spacer lift on stock springs. No issues running that tire.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
It's import that you tell us what kind of wheels and tires you are lookig at. What size wheel? 17, 18, 20's? What size tires? 266/275/285?

The 20" limited wheels are narrow, pretty much every high end tire chain will tell you that you cant put an aftermarket tire on them because their computer wont let them put anything over 5% wider on the stock wheel. This pretty much rules out almost every aftermarket tire on the market because they are all wider.
You CAN put a wider tire on that stock wheel and it looks good, fits, and rides better than OEM. The OEM wheels are pretty nice, have a desirable look, and you already got them so why not keep them. If you are only wanting to spend $1700 you're looking at a super cheap tire and wheel combo, or just a nice set of tires for the OEM wheels.

Look at 275/55-20 tires for a good size that is practically the same height as stock, no lift needed, they are wider and fill the wheel wells better, and look REAL NICE on the OEM 20s.

After doing a little bit of research, im looking at 17 inch rims and either 275s or 285s to achieve a more rugged and offroady look. i dont need them to be mud terrain or anything crazy because i dont plan on taking it on any crazy terrain like mud or rock crawling. i also just dont want to do any trimming and dont want to deal with rubbing either so ill probably end up going with 275s. im also realizing that my 1700-2000 budget isnt really gonna cut it so im going to have to spend a little more than expected. i guess my new max would be around 2500

Thanks for this. this is really helpful information. for now im going to keep looking for a rim and tire combo but its good to know i can get away with some nice 275s on the stock rims. i thought that they were too thin so i dismissed that option but i will for sure keep that in mind
