I got hit with a caps lock response. She's a spicy one. I'll own up to my mistake though. Messing with a woman named Rowdie is never is in your best interest.

My .02 cents..... I have noticed the "issue" the OP described randomly in my 4Runner and some other Toyotas I've owned. My 07 FJ did this, and so did my 2015 SR5 4runner. Sometimes the fan blows and sometimes it doesn't after being left on when the engine is turned off. When I restart the engine and the fan doesn't blow I move the fan speed knob one spot either way, it will start to blow. I don't consider it an issue.
Edit: The fan comes on immediately when I turn the knob. It doesn't take several seconds like OP described.

I'm gonna add something that may or may not be relevant here... there is a setting available in Carista where you can switch the heat-AC to "eco-mode". In the little digging I did, it appears that this setting regulates the "power" to the heating cooling system so that it doesn't function at 100% when idling or sitting at a stop light (to save gas or wear and tear?). But I haven't been able to confirm that from a reliable source.

Its not moving at all until I turn the fan speed knob ( ;) ) all the way to off and then back on. I even took someone's advice above and turned 'Max AC' off before I turned the engine off. It still didnt turn the AC back on when the engine turned over. Also, sorry about my caps lock! Work PC is a touch lil thing.

No air at all comes out upon restart. Checking other issues that happen, I scheduled an appt for Toyota so they can look at it. :D

It sounds strange! Good that you've made the appointment with Toyota. Maybe the control unit (the entire unit with the ac, fan speed and temp controls) is faulty.

    Please keep us posted!

    Cheers,

    Sean

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 35 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 35yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Funny story on my 2nd Gen 22RE(116hp)…..while going up a long steep grade with a buddy, I turned off the AC. He asked why, I said to give me more power for climbing the hill. He said, “what’s next, the radio?”.

Went out just a bit ago, and apparently didn't take my own advice and hadn't shut off the fan or hit the AC button to turn it off last trip home and parked. Today when I started the engine, the fan and AC came on just like I left it yesterday. All this to say there IS apparently something up with your AC that needs checking out as you've been saying.

2015 SR5 In TX I might turn the AC off a couple days in Dec & Jan but normal operating condition is AC on. Settings: AC light - on, Fan speed - 2 detents from Off, Temp - 2 detents toward warm from max.

I turn the key, the engine starts and within 10 -15 seconds the air starts to cool. I twist the fan to high and the temp to max until the interior cools down. I then set the system as above.

I do not change the settings or shut off early. Never had a mold issue. Never experienced OP's problem.

    I'd say something's gone squirrely.

Let the head scratches at Toyota figure it out.

OP ever figure this out? I've been paying attention to mine. (A/C) The A/C failed to blow only once after being left on when the key was turned off, in about the last 20 starts or so. I turned fan knob one turn and it started blowing. I did not have to turn the knob all the way off for it to start blowing again. Hope they figured it out for you OP.
