Bilstein or Fox shocks

    I used the Bilstein 600 lb front springs that came with the set. I am still on stock rear springs. I have the fronts set to 1.5”. I do not have 3rd row and have no additional weight so my rear sits a little higher than typical. Right now I’m at about 1” rake, which is what I was after.

    A lot of folks use the Wheelers 1” or 1.5” rear spring depending on how much rake is desired and how high the fronts are set.

    Dobinsons springs can also be used with the 6112’s. If I were going for 2” or more I’d have gotten the longer spring to use so I didn’t have to add the height on preload.

    I’m on 265’s, which is why I wanted to keep it at 1.5” up front.

    This is right after install.

    This is a little bit of apples to oranges, but…

    On my old tundra, I installed bilstein 6112s. They were okay. When they leaked, I changed to eibach. I liked them better, especially the adjustability. Now, I have fox on my 4runner trd pro. A MUCH plusher ride (on road), but that may just be the different vehicle rather than the suspension. Take it for what it’s worth i guess.

    See if you can find a cheap set of trd pro fox take offs. Buying them from Toyota runs about $2500 but if you can find a slightly used set for less then $1000 it's a solid setup

    No, the TRD Pro Fox are very soft. There’s a lot more body roll and nosedive than other trims. The Bilsteins will give a more stable ride but have a different feel over bumps. Mine are worn, and I’m probably going to replace with Bilsteins given I do a lot of highway driving to get to the locations I go off-road.

    After 56,000 miles, it was time to do rebuild on the fox shock or buy new. I decided to buy bilstein 6112s at 2.5” 3 weeks ago. I sold my Pro fox shocks to cover some of the costs. As much as I like liked the fox and eibach set up, the bilstein is a nice change, felt a big difference roading on yankee hill in CO last week. Still getting used to stiffness on the road but liking it already.

    Very nice. What do you mean by 2.5"? The chart doesn't show that setting for Pros:

    And what did you do on the rear? Keep the factory springs?

    You are correct on the Bilstein Pro numbers on the 2.1. To get to 2.5, you need to get a taller spring that is a C-59-302 for a 2.5-3”). Other springs that can work Eibach 14”x2.5” 650-700lbs, Dobinsons or ICON 2.5” ID springs that match length. Anything longer than 14” will top out the shock.

    However I’m sure every shop has a POV

    As to the rear, I had a minor rebuild/cleanup then added new springs, Old Man Emu OME2895E Coils stiffer than OEM not by much.
