Just purchased a used 2022 4 runner limited and asked the dealer to change the battery during negotiations. Unfortunately I didn't take a pic of the battery and the one now looks just like the one I saw before purchase. How do I tell the age of this battery?

    That’s the original battery.

We can’t buy that Panasonic battery with the caps here in North America, it’s what is installed in the factory in Japan.

(I wish we could buy them though, it’s a good battery. Maybe you could argue for cash value instead? But if it was an oral agreement and not in writing, you might be SOL)

That is the original Toyota battey. It's a fantastic battery.
There should be a date code on the battery that tells you the manufacturing date.

Panasonic 12-volt battery date codes typically follow a format of YYMMDD (Year, Month, Day) along with a shift indication letter (A, B, C, etc.). The first two digits represent the year, followed by the month (1-12 or A-L), and then the day of the month. The shift code indicates which production shift made the battery.

If you get the Toyota 84 month battery, the dealership will put a sticker date on it. 5/2025 etc. if it dies or needs to be replaced - it’s free if it’s within 12 months. My cca was about 300 & I just got new one for free

I would keep that battery in it. It will probably last longer than whatever they replace it with

What you have a quality battery. Little weak on the CCA, but I’m stock, and hope my 24 Panasonic battery holds up in south Florida.
My next battery will be probably the dealer battery, duralast, or one from Walmart. I want to get the biggest size for OEM tray,

I believe it’s a group 24F and can get as high as 850 CCA, but 750 will do for me.
I like Deka too, we use them on our f150 work trucks, we have a fleet. They seem to last 4-5 years in south Florida. No joke. We get them from John Collins, which is right up the street from work. And we’re based in the “industrial zone” on Shirley St

I agree with RumHam, that's the original battery manufacturered in 2021. I have had original Toyota batteries last 7 to 10 years, but have had to replace them sooner.. If the agreement was a new battery, they need to honor it with a new battery or compensation. The battery died in my daughter's Rav4 after 4 years and 3 months. The dealer charged us $198 for a 7 year battery.

You're in TN? Batteries there last 4 years. A battery installed in 2022 still has another year left.

3 year old lead acid battery is past it's prime. Asking for fresh battery at that point is not unreasonable. With that said getting new Quicker State vs 3 y/o Panasonic is likely even trade in longevity and zero benefit.

Did it say in wtiting on your paperwork about the new battery? Sometime there is a "Due Bill" for item to obtain after the deal is closed and you picked up the vehicle.

I can vouch for this. The factory battery in my 2006 Toyota Tundra (4.7L V-8) that I bought new for myself lasted in to 2016. Impressive. I was bummed when I finally to replace it. It didn’t strand me or let me down anywhere, but I could sense that it was beginning to crank the engine slower, so I errored on the side of caution and replaced it.

So far the factory battery in my 2022 4Runner SR5 Premium 4WD, vehicle was built in June, 2022, is going strong.
