Its dexos and has similar certifications as any other oil sold in the US.. Only difference between Valvoline, Mobil 1, Cosco, walmart, fram is the additivies.

Just like fuel, All fuel comes from same truck, its just later the top tier fuel giants like EXXON, Shell, BP etc add additives & filters to make it more efficient and help engine etc. I personally use Mobil 1, have used Valvoline too before on my 210K 4runner which I bought used and it did made huge difference.

I use Exxon, Shell, BP and Exxon fuel gives most power/efficiency to my engine personally, I can feel it. With oil its hard to tell but with Mobil 1 Extended Performance I always see small residue on tip of the dipstick, assuming its additives doing extra work to prevent carbon build up, with Toyota oil ive never seen it.

Anyway, use Valvo/Mobil 1 if you love your engine, use Costco or whatever if its just a car. Mobil 1 is basically what Toyota oil is without additives, Mobil 1 & Valvoline are both used in Nascar cars, so take that as you will.

^^^I love my engine, but the texting driver who smashed into my Toyota saw it as just a car.

I had no issues with it. Someone already posted a video about it.
Sometimes Costco runs it $5 off as well.

For what it’s worth, I also swapped from mobile 1 5w-30 to the Kirkland brand for my 02 is300. Swapped over at 230k, up to 260k now.

I also run OEM filters on both vehicles.

It’s marketing and it’s working well for the huge companies, in perhaps, typical fashion to encourage people to spend more money for the mental benefits. This is especially obvious since companies don’t ever reveal their secret sauce recipe to the masses, but proclaim specific benefits.
The reality is if the oil composition, performance and longevity properties are equal to the manufacturer recommended specifications then it’s not a problem.

Mobil 1 and Valvoline are both good, and their additives do work, its not just marketing in their case. Same for Exxon, shell , BP fuel. You can use some junk fuel, then use Exxon and you will see difference, at least I do see difference when I drive

I didn’t say there wasn’t any value in the expensive oils. If you read you’d understand that there’s no way to prove their worth of fillers other than marketing. Sure they’ll win some events and pat themselves on the back over it, but it’s a small piece of the success, not the reason. I know it’s costly for a company to have their name placarded everywhere and that doesn’t change the quality of their products, but it does increase the cost due to added overhead. There are dozens of oil companies who don’t have huge marketing budgets that are producing and selling their products to consumers without any complaints.
