My New Trailhunter

I honestly don’t know. This is my first 4 Runner. I knew I didn’t want to drive a large vehicle, even though I like them. They had a Sequoia Platinum in the showroom and if I didn’t mind the size it would be in my garage. That was an awesome car. The 87k price was shocking but wow, what a car. Stupid things like getting into a parking spot, making U-turns without performing a 3 point turn, etc grow old. I want to get where I’m going without any hassle. Larger vehicles are great on long road trips but not so nice for everyday use. I wish they had a Sequoia in a mini version lol. Personal preference.

Thank you! Yes, I did read the recall thread I do feel for anyone who buys a new car only to experience a very serious problem - heartbreaking. For whatever reason, I believe with all my heart and soul the problem has been addressed and solved by Toyota. There hasn’t been an official recall, but it is posted in the recall thread. In statistics one, or a few people experiencing a similar problem is a “case study”. Meaning the statistical analysis doesn’t support an epidemic. Off course as Mark Twain said, “Lies, damn lies, and statistics”. Numbers are easily manipulated to persuade people into believing half-truths. The numbers are reliable and honest, but the people who analyze them, not so much.

Reliability is Toyota’s trademark, their bread and butter. They have a lot invested in making these builds a success. Isn’t the 4 Runner Trailhunter iforce max hybrid a Tacoma Trailhunter in a different box? That is, the iforce max turbo is not the first of its kind? I didn’t research the Tacoma to see if similar problems had consistently been occurring.

 

You are going to have to bare with us as many will be asking several questions on this beauty you got. How is the fuel efficiency so far on this unit? What else can you show us?

 

As a side note, Toyata’s app is driving me crazy. I don’t want to disable notifications but I do get a lot of them. I assume their computers are constantly analyzing this model and make because it is so new. That is a good thing, but…

 

The fuel efficiency isn’t “as advertised” thus far. I would have to look, but it was about 2 miles per gallon less. In all fairness I have been trying out all the drive modes. Plus, with the exception of the drive home from Vegas my driving has been city driving. Additionally I have spent a great deal of time learning the in’s and out’s; playing with my new toys. The techie toys are my passion and I have not owned a vehicle that has so many toys to play with. Cool stuff. Heck, this is my first push button start vehicle. My husbands GMC Sierra was loaded with a lot of toys, but no push button start. Our 2nd car, a 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited has zero toys, but it was the car we most often drove, until now. Toyota’s don’t die. They do get ugly after a few hundred thousand miles, but they don’t die if you buy them new and maintain them.

To give you an idea of how much I’m trying to learn, I had to consult my owners manual to set the parking break (stop laughing). I used my left foot to set the break and there was nothing there! Too funny! I set it to the auto mode for now. Now it sets itself when I park - loving the techie stuff!

That is very cool that you are excited and wanting to learn every little detail about your new vehicle. Keep learning every corner and inch of your 4R and it will last you for a long time. Enjoy it,and congrats again on the trailhunter purchase, it is a very nice and Capable truck!

 

Your post is hysterical. Well done. Proud daddy. I can relate, though I’ve had her for 2 years, I find myself sitting in the garage just admiring her. It’s my first 4R and never thought I’d enjoy a truck this much. I took some pics after her wash yesterday.

Thats every Fast&Furious ricers dream to have their vehicle sound like that. Ha.... But for sure its not for everybody.

 

Thank you. My husband and I try to laugh many times a day. Enjoy the moment because that is what we have been given, nothing more. I love the silver - celestial silver? That is my favorite color for a car. The mud bath only makes it shine brighter. Silver doesn’t show the dust and it looks clean much longer. Also it stays cooler in hot climates. It was only 111 degrees today
