Link to best Dashcam install thread?

Hey gang. Long time lurker. Would any of you be kind enough to link some of the most useful dashcam installation threads for the 5th Gen? I think I have selected the cam I want, it’s a front facing and a rear facing rig.

Mainly curious what others have done with wire maintenance.

I can tell you for the front, a Dongar adapter that taps into the auto dimming mirror is the way.

 

Hijakcing real quick…do those dongars, like the trailgrid?? guys everyone talks bout, act as a hardwire kit when tapped into our mirrors?

as far tucking be-tween/hind, all the paneling comes off pretty easily in these trucks

(For a rear mounted camera, I think I’ve seen a clip that slides into the headliner for a mounting point but haven’t bothered)

hardwire kit as in 24/7 power not just when driving

 

The adapter mentioned does not provide power 24/7. It only powers the dashcam(s) when the vehicle is running. The upside of it is, it's short, easy to install and you can tuck it away relatively easy. Runnning a cable for 24/7 power (for parking mode), you have to snake a power cable through the head liner, down the A pillar and under the dash. Then you have to tap into a fuse.

 

Coolbeans…finally putting that ? to rest

 

I went hard wired and did what was mentioned above to get 24/7 power in regards to shaking/bumping movement activation. Took around 35 minutes to remove and feed wires down to the fuse box. About 1.5 years with zero issues as of today.

I just used a piece of Scotch Mount tape to mount my rear camera to the headliner fastener button. Going on two years and the camera has stayed put.

 

"Best" will need the filters applied of pre or post 2020 MY.
