Will be in Ft Myers from Oct to February. I think every Tuesday there is a car show there. I think I’m going to enter this year. I won’t win, but nobody there cares about winning a $25 gift card. It’s really just about 100 people just bonding over cars. Recently just added a rooftop tent and awning and have always kept her clean and shiny even after Toyota Jamboree, Moab, Colorado and Arizona off roading. My question is. Are there any “rules” I should know about? Like unwritten policies or protocols I need to know about. I don’t want to make a rookie mistake or be “that guy”IMG_2763.jpg IMG_2746.jpg IMG_2567.jpg

    Oooh look, another mod.....
A Toyota 4Runner isn't a vehicle you enter into a car show. It's the vehicle you USE to tow the vehicle that you enter into a car show.

I've been in dozens of car shows but never for the money or trophies. Do it just to have fun and be excited to see what other stuff is there. Make new friends, enjoy yourself.

I don’t think a 4Runner is car show worthy except for a restored 1st Gen.

Go ahead and enter, sure there will be some "usual" classic cars, hot rods, etc bit there is usually a few "unique vehicles" that spark some interest and fun conversation e.g.: your 4Runner bring a few photos (like you posted) of it "in action." I'm sure you'll be welcome and have some fun and meet some nice folks...I've been to a few and it is a fun time. If you set your tent up you'll most likely get some kids that would like to explore it (obviously your choice if you would allow them to....go and have fun! There is usually food vendors, but still might be a good idea to pack your own beverages and snacks (just in case).

I am not allowed to go to such places, but you go ahead and enter with your rig and see what friends you make. You could consider entering with this unit below and companion, you will get lots of looks and great chatting.

My brother and I own a 1937 Cord and a 1937 Cadillac V12 Town Sedan. They were my father’s pride and joy. He showed them when we were young, and after he was gone my brother took up the mantle. Now my brother judges Auburns, Cords, and Duesenbergs at the National level. Occasionally there will be a barn find of one of those cars and several of the national judges will fly out to the location to examine and photograph the car. This results in conflicts sometimes. On one barn find occasion it was noted that the seams on the upholstery of the seat back didn’t line up perfectly with those on the seat bottom. At a subsequent competition the owner of the second-place car argued that he should have gotten first place because his seat seams lined up perfectly while those of the first place car did not. The gentleman was told by the judges that the seams were not perfectly aligned from the factory, and his car was “over-restored.” It almost came to blows.

BTW, regarding the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg meets, the judges definitely take into account whether the cars are trailer queens or drivers and adjust their scoring accordingly. My dad would have been embarrassed to trailer a car to a meet. In fact each year there’s always a special award for the car that drove the farthest to attend the meet.

That’s all way too high in the ether for me. I have a 1973 Volkswagen Thing that I’ve shown a couple of times, but those were purely see-and-be-seen type meet ups.

    Disagree.

There's no reason a tastefully modded 4Runner couldn't be in a car show. It's no more lame than the dozens of bone stock Corvettes, late model muscle cars with cat-back exhaust and "cold air" intakes, and parking lot princess bro-dozer trucks that are at pretty much every single car show.

I'll admit it's probably not getting a lot of attention, though.

And, there are few, if any vehicles you can tow with a 4Runner. A car hauler trailer alone will eat up a big chunk of towing capacity.

I tow with mine regularly. It's an SUV. Tow within the capacity and it does fine.

The few times I have been, I end up buying vehicles that I don't need, or getting into a restoration project for fun that ultimately :spending:becomes a money pit like my build and so best to avoid the temptation. I'm eyeing right now a landcruiser so 3 units is enough for 2 people IMO. That's my reason, not what @icebear is suggesting.
