    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the 4x4 life and I'm really interested in building up my 4Runner for off-road trail riding. I'm looking forward to learning more about the platform and off-roading in general. I come from sports cars and recently sold a Mazdaspeed 6 I bought back in August 2018 I was using as a DD.

I've always wanted a 4Runner so I started looking around for one in relatively good condition for less than what I sold my Mazda for...2100 dollars...

Obviously here in Maryland I found a few that were ragged and rusted out but I came across the holy grail. After a lot of waiting and searching I found a 96' Limited with 260,000 miles for 1700. No frame rust at all and very minor front and rear bumper rust. The previous owner had replaced the timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires, brakes, and shocks/struts. He had also just bought new tires for it, they even still had the dimples on them.

I thought it was a pretty good deal for 1700 so my buddy and I hopped into his 4Runner, rolled up there, and made the deal.

So I'm looking forward to joining the community and learning more about our platform! If anyone is from the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area we should cruise sometime! I'm loving the 4Runner as a DD and I'm already looking at starting to mod it. This thing is definitely going to take money away from my CTS V but it's completely worth it!

There's some peeling clear coat which I plan on taking care of and the front bumper is fade but it's not bad at all.

    Thanks for reading!

DB87A72E-CED9-454B-BB3A-CE35BE97864E.jpg Welcome! I’m not on here a whole lot but just came across your thread. Just picked up a 1999 SR5 M/T last summer. Major work in progress. I’m in Hyattsville, I’m no mechanic but can help you troubleshoot. Here’s my initial suggestion:

    - maintenance (fluids, LBJ, etc)
    - Lift
    - Tires
    - Tundra Brake Upgrade
    - Sport Hood
    - Cupholder mod

Also, the nova thread on tacomaworld has a lot of guys that cruise together and are willing to help wrench (so I’m told). Good luck with your build!

Thanks everyone! If you're in MD we should meet up sometime! I'm in Southern MD but I don't mind driving. I have no idea where any good off-roading locations are around here so I'll be researching some areas if anyones down to go! I appreciate the warm welcome and I'll be starting a build thread when the build actually starts...I need to finish my V before race season starts back up!

Welcome from Missouri. I sold my 98 with 347k on the clock.the kid I sold it to still drives it with approx. 365k on it now. I will warn you, I wore out an ignition key around the 275k mark. You might invest in another key.

Thanks for the heads up! I only got one key with the purchase of the car so I'm been thinking about getting a spare anyways.
