I purchased my 87 4Runner a few weeks ago for $6,500. It has a new rebuilt 22re with receipts. It now has about 13k miles. It also has had the transmission replaced 5 speed, and I was told the suspension was replaced but not sure if it was since the rear end still sags but it came with add a leafs I need to install. I just want some thoughts of what you think of it and how I should build it? I am thinking about getting new tires 33x10.5x15. I've heard those fit on stock suspension. I would like to keep stock suspension for now if the 33's fit if not later down the road a 2 or 3 inch lift. What do you recommend without breaking the bank? The build im going for is just a nice camping rig that can go anywhere. Im not planning on doing any crazy crawling. Lastly, what are some nice good looking tube rear bumpers with a hitch receiver? I have been looking at the 4xInnovations tube rear bumper. Any thoughts?
    Thanks for the info

    Nice rig... congrats
I'm running 31" 10.5 tires on stock rims
Puts my speedometer off about 5mph
Lot of folks running 33s it takes more ponies to get them rolling...

I currently have 31x10.5x15 and i'm not sure if my wheels are stock but I believe they are, and my speedometer is 2 mph slow. yeah I understand they will take more to get rolling. Do you know if they fit on stock suspension?

That thing looks amazing! As far as how to build it, seams like you know what you want out of it. Hell I would just enjoy it as is.

Performance wise for a 22re you can get the 82 Supra AFM, CAI, LCENGINEERING long tube header and 2 1/2" exhaust, electric fan, and a LCE RV Cam...

Nice rig! You can definitely run 33/10s on the original rims. I did for years without a lift. I did do the pinch weld mod. I'm not sure about running them on aftermarket rims. A header definitely helps but don't waste your money on any "cold" air intake. The factory intake actually draws air from outside the engine compartment. IMG_0350.jpgIMG_0349.jpg

I've got the TrailGear rear bumper. It's alright. Bent it the first time out running Dishpan Springs trail near Big Bear. Spring for the extra side braces that tie into the frame. IMG_0939.jpg

I mentioned the CAI because IF you can find an 82 Supra AFM you'd have to modify it to use your stock air breather... this is how i did mine even though it's on a turbo, it would basically be the same on the 22re20180921_085626.jpg

The 82 Supra AFM is plug n play...
There are other model AFM housings that work but you have to swap out the internals... well documented and not too difficult... lots of info about that mod on the yotatech forum

I was looking at that rear bumper as well but I want something with a bit more presence so it doesnt look like it has no bumper thats why i like the 4xinnovations one.

I will look into the headers but not sure if ill pull the trigger since California's stupid exhaust laws but when i move to Colorado ill for sure consider it. Awesome thx for confirming that 33x10.5 fit with stock suspension

I've only had it for 3 weeks washed it 2-3 times but has only stayed clean for a day before mud is back on it. We've been getting a lot of rain in the bay recently.

That's a really nice bumper. A lot sturdier than the TG pos I got. Also quite a bit more $$$ too but worth it.
They make smog-legal headers with the Cal. E.O. certification.

Thank you I don't think that bumper is too expensive given the prices of warns and arb's and even with the new California new exhaust laws the headers are allowed?

Good looking 1st gen. I would do a ball joint spacer and hd torsion bars up front and in the rear replace with ome springs. You could run some tall and skinny tires no issues. I dont know exact cost but I know that would be around $1k range. Not including tires. I'm also running the TG rear bumper but I agree with @BestGen and you need the brace. Attached is a pic of mine on 31s. Torsion bars are torqued all the way out with an add a leaf and longer shackles. It rides like crap but that will be changing soon
