Good afternoon, spent the day changing the alternator, power steering and air conditioning belts. I had the battery disconnected the whole time also. I started it up and everything was good, took it for a short drive, when I got home the the red battery icon on the dash was illuminated. I checked over connections and belts are tight. I don't have a multimeter so couldn't check voltages. Will have to pick one up tomorrow if I can't fix the problem. Any idea what would be causing this, something I'm missing?
    Thanks

What was the reason that you changed the alternator?

    Was an OEM alternator?

It is not unheard of to get a bad alternator especially remanufactured or aftermarket. Post Covid things are not even close to what they used to be.

    2Toys,
Sorry for the confusion, I only replaced the belts, not the alternator

Looks like my bad for misreading your post! Duh!
It could just be bad luck that the alternator may have failed right after you replaced the belt. Let us know when you have a chance to check with a multimeter.

2Toys, Took it for a drive this morning and the light went off, then flickered on and off. Evidently the belt stretched a bit after running it. I was reading that if you can turn the belt 90 degrees at the midpoint of the belt you should be good, mine was nowhere near that tight. I adjusted it and it seems fine now. You can tell I'm a retired carpenter and not a mechanic. Thanks for your help

Good problem solving! Even better that you didn't waste money throwing parts at it.

Take it to any oreillys advanced etc. they can run a battery, alternator and starter test on it in 5 minutes
