    If you have the equipment on hand, Motor R&R would be around 6 to 6.5 hours plus or minus due to the applied skill level.

    Once on a stand the sky is the limit depending in how deep you go with disassembly and checking tolerances and parts.

    Welcome to the forum, bigger question is what issue does you have on your Runner?

    Thank you. I’m very unskilled in navigating this site, so I hope I’m responding appropriately/correctly.

    I’ve been charged $850 to remove & tear down to see if motor worth rebuilding ultimately to then purchase a new motor & scrap the rebuild. I thought $ was excessive so was looking for better answer. Person doing work skill level is high…tasked with ultimately top to bottom redo of 86 4Runner.
    I’ve paid $ almost $7000 and it’s not even running.
    Very discouraging. Trying to get truck back & find a place to take it…
    Thanks so much for your help in answering.

    does this seem unreasonable re costs?
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated…

    Welcome from Wisconsin! Not trying to put 'salt' in your wound, but you could have bought a professionally built short block, had the head rebuilt.. or bought a long block from L/C engineering for what you have in this rebuild. But since you're 7,000 into this rebuild, you might want to ask him "what's up?" Is the entire 4Runner being rebuilt or just the engine? You said 'top to bottom redo'. If you're talking just engine it appears kind of high, best of luck.
