Just got the San Hima installed on the Sherpa crestone. Any advice from tent owners I should know about? Seems the setup is easy and I was able to do a test drive with no wind noise. Do you put any protective coating on the shell? We are new to this. Our days of sleeping in the back are over. We haven’t pulled out the tent yet but plan on doing it tonight.

If you’re going to spay anything on your tent I would just email the company and ask for recommendations. You don’t want to spay something that may have a weird reaction

edit: congrats though! Looks sick! Also I heard people get these folding recovery boards from Amazon to level their truck when they get to the camp site.

There’s a definite charisma exuded by rooftop tents. They are definitely superior if your style of camping involves breaking camp and moving often. My first time witnessing one I was impressed that the owner had set up and was grilling while the rest of us were still erecting our tents. Sadly I’m at the age where multiple night time trips to the bathroom are required. I have aged out of the rooftop tent option.

I would suggest getting a battery operated LED light/fan, I got one from Amazon for about $20 and it’s a game changer when camping in warmer weather. Also, I got some lights to go under my overhang of the tent which is nice, they also illuminate the ladder at night. I haven’t ventured to camp in the super cold but some are really big on the diesel heaters.

Airing the thing out is always a good idea at the beginning and end of the season I’ve found. That stale tent smell is never nice to crawl into.
Congrats on the purchase and install I hope you love the simplicity of it!

Brilliant about the underside. The wife and I were talking about putting glow lights on the ladder.

Thank you. The first setup took about 15 minutes because we had to keep stopping and reading instructions. We think now we can have it setup in less than 5 minutes. We are heading out west and will be camping in Utah Colorado and Arizona over a two month period. Then from Arizona we head to Florida for the winter then back to Chicago in March. In Florida we have a condo but may camp in the Everglades. We will see though. Last time we went to the Everglades I’ve never EVER experienced mosquitoes like that.
