Alright, let's be honest; who here is considering a 6th gen?

I agree overall I am blessed to have one of the last of the 2024s. I am just old school and like a V6

I used to have 4.0 Explorers that actually did well towing a few times a month (3k lb boat rig). For me the size of the 4Runner and old body on frame explorers (ended in 2009) are the perfect size to tow and fit in the garage. Everyone has a different use I guess. I have much higher expectations from the Toyota

 

There's nothing wrong with preferring a N/A V6 over a turbo 4. I'm just acknowledging that the turbo 4 makes more power.

I've owned three 4Runners and a Tacoma. Every one has been sufficient for my towing needs. A little more power wouldn't hurt, though.

 

Materials might be better in the GX but I’d wager fit and finish should be relatively the same across the GX550, 6G runner, and LCs (some). They’re all made at the same plant (Tahara) some LCs come from a different plant. It’s the same workers putting their hands on every vehicle.

I’d be curious to compare a Tahara built LC to a Tokyo built one.

 

Have you been in a new Land cruiser or 4Runner. I’ve been in every new 4R except a platinum. This includes the new Pro. The interior is absolute shit. The fake plastic molle panel webbing all over the place is awful. The center console is the size of a toddler shoe box. You can’t fit more than a pack of circus peanuts in it.

 

so you’d be willing to “settle” for the land cruiser over an extra $72 a month payment
The gx550 high end is in a totally different ballpark from the top of the line land cruiser and only about $7,000 difference.
Sure the price changes even more drastically when you compare the base land cruiser and top of the line GX but you should know those two vehicles are as similar as a Nissan Versa and a Nissan skyline GTR.

 

At age 72, I'm keeping my 2024 4Runner until both our wheels fall off. Big improvement over my 2006 Tacoma Pre-Runner quad cab TRD. The V-6 in the Tacoma is one of the reasons I bought the 4Runner almost exactly one year ago, same engine in my 2024 4Runner. (Actually my wife bought me the 4Runner for Fathers Day 2024) I'm one lucky guy in more ways than one!

 

What are you towing and how much weight?

 

I agree that buying the first year or two of a new model is generally a bad idea. My Dad had a '73 Vega station wagon he loved, but the first couple of years, the engines blew at 50k.
I have no choice. My car was rear-ended on the freeway and totaled.

Now need a new mid-sized SUV.

Looking at the 4Runner and the Kia Telluride. The Kia is $4,000 cheaper, normally aspirated V6, superior warranty. The Telluride has more room and drives nicely, but I think Toyota has proven its mettle over the decades.
I do much prefer the looks of the older 4Runners.

 

I am not interested in the 6g 4r or LC. GX I do like but also not a fan of turbo motors. Yes I like the power but not complexity they add. I only have 30k on my 21 5g and happy with how I have it outfitted. Long time before I will need to replace it but always looking at what I like.

Sorry if I implied cost was my rationale. Gx I like and lc 6g I don't. The turbo is the only reason I dont own a gx now.

I have accepted the turbo is here to stay and this is last NA cars/trucks i will likely own. Why I have the 4r and a IS500 while I can get what I prefer.

I consider myself very blessed and fortunate in life but the Lexus GX would be out of my league. Looks very nice but I just looked it up and starting at 106k yikes I could never justify that myself.

Even if I had loads of money I am not sure I would want to portray that image. For me personally that’s like rolling around in an Escalade.

I guess despite being a white collar worker I prefer fitting in with the blue collar type guys. I’d be afraid to drive a $100k vehicle let alone park it somewhere

Besides my 30 yo fishing boat just would not look right behind it. Decision made sticking with the 5th Gen

 

I find Lexus grill outright revolting. I would not be caught dead driving something like that, no matter how appealing the rest of the vehicle is.

Say whatever you want about the new LC, at least it does not have Lexus grill.

Except the GX engine may seize at any time. For that reason I would choose the LC.

 

It looks better in person. In 24 we went to look at a new GX,ended up buying a LX600. It was a demo with 3500 miles so it was less than new. Really great truck.

 

Boats, cargo trailers, utility trailers, travel trailers, car haulers. Heaviest was ~6000#, but I don't recommend it. I was in a pinch.

 

The LX and GX460 grills were the primary reason why we passed on a 23 GX460 and bought a 2nd 2023 ORP.

There are two of the GX460s on my walking route and after all these years they still look as bad as the first time I ever saw those abominations.

 

The interior on the 6th gen makes my 5th gen ORP feel upscale and well thought out like an LS460.

 

What does that have to do with anything? Somebody commented they didn't like black flares, I said I do. Size/shape was never mentioned.

And I don't mind the flares on the Gen 6, I just think they should be matte. I will say though that I don't like the way they pinch in at the bottom.

 

This is the FULL SIZE Lexus GX, the Sequoia and Big Boy Land Cruiser size. Yes that one is expensive.
The smaller GX550 however comes well equipped at around $65,000 and the highest trim i believe is about $83,000

 

There are wheel arch flares, then there are gaudy wheel arch flares.

 

I'd love to get a 6th gen in Everest green to pair with my Lunar rock 5th gen. Wish my 5th gen still had 23k miles on it.

 

I bought my 2024 as my vehicle to grow old with, it will likely outlive me. If this were not the case, there's nothing about the 6th gen that I feel like I'm missing out on. Some things are better on the 6th gen, and some things are better on the 5th gen. There's nothing so enticing about the 6th gen that makes me want to jump.

 

Passed a 25 Sport today, not bad looking from the front and side, but ugly AF from the back. My local dealer offered me $55k for mine to trade on a new Pro, they want $14k difference. I'm keeping mine.

 

Mine just turned 18k a week or so ago. I don't suppose at age 71 I'll ever get the chance to wear mine out...

 

You probably won’t even get it broken in. I’m kinda in the same situation. My kids are circling my 4Runner like vultures.

 

I guess people are overlooking the 5th gen also has acres of hard plastic and some fake carbon fiber in the interior. Reminder of said fake carbon fiber:
