Smells like a rental to me. 20k in a year is fairly high on an SUV because someone putting in that kind of miles doesn't usually want 16mpg. Might just be the location though.

Also... is this normal? I paid less than that for my 2024 SR5P off the lot...

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I know prices can vary based on region, but that's what the 2024 SR5's with 20k miles go for in North Texas. I just checked Auto Trader and the pricing/mileage was almost identical. There were a lot of them also. The 2024 model's come out in late 2023 so it's very easy to rack up 20k miles because it's over 18 months old now.

22k miles divided by 18 months = 1222.22 miles per month. Multiply that by 12 months and you get 14,666 miles per year. That's right on par with the average miles driven yearly for the "average" person.

Living in Texas, it's EXTREMELY common for me to put on 25000 miles annually. So it will depend on the region.

You paid less than that OTD for a 2024 SR5? And I thought I was a bandit at $44k OTD! Good for you!

Definitely mis-phrased that... was about the same as you OTD, I just meant new off the lot.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it's just not all that common. We're all here because we love the vehicle - most would choose something more economical if they're putting >15k on a vehicle in a year.

It really depends on how much money you have

Would you rather have something getting 20mpg or more but then have it fall into maintenance needs every 2-3 months?

Feels as if this 4runner barely needs anything but oil..

    Covering 20k a year too.
If I can find another reliable Japanese SUV in the same price range I would switch.
But there are none. Either too curvy or too vanish.
Honda has nothing but the new Passport looks promising.I never buy new though so that's out.
Suzuki and Mitsubishi have nothing. Love the Pajero. Isuzu does not sell here. Not that they have anything other than the MUx.
    Nissan is all but dusted.
There is the older GX, which is essentially the 4runner is fancier drapes. Or the bigger LX or the LC200. Again very expensive in the used market. But the plan is to get one eventually in a few years.
The 4runner actually has no competition.

From 1993 to 2020 I avg. 20-25k a year W/my commute. Then in 2020 I took a position that my yearly mileage dropped to 12k a year. This Aug will be 2 years of working from home. New 20-Nov-23 in garage the Toyota App says 8,831 miles. Used it last to go to dinner & this morning to go to breakfast.

I’m with LCJ77, my 23 ORP only has 9600 miles on it as I work from home. Looking forward to keeping it for 15-20 years and should still be low miles for its age.
