As I go off road more, I am not considering the need for recovery points. At this point I don't want to install aftermarket front or rear bumpers. Looking for some options and suggestions. Also some suggestions for the rear as well.

Any anyone found a place to keep a snatch strap and some D-Rings in their 4Runner? Not much storage for sure.

The rear already has a beefy recovery hoop on the driver's side frame rail. There are matching threaded holes on the passenger side that you can use to mount a second hoop if you do the side-exit tailpipe mod. Hoop P/N 51095-60030. Bolts 91642-81235. Clean up the threads with a thread chaser first.

In the winter, I keep my recovery gear in a medium size Plano trunk in the back, along with other tools and equipment (tire plug kit, tire pump, lug wrench, spare fan belt, extra wiper blades, extra headlight bulb, first aid kit, jump pack...)

I know snatch recovery is popular, but a non-kinetic slow steady pull can also recover a truck and be much safer to people and truck components.
If you get stuck by lack of traction getting pulled backward is likely a viable recovery. Placing a solid (aluminum or steel) hitch plug into your receiver is a good anchor for a non-kinetic pull out. I like the ones drilled for hitch pin both vertical and horizontal. That way you can have D-shackle move side to side or up and down as required.
I have no concerns using the stock steel hoops designed for transport tie down for a forward steady pull of modest force.

If you dont need towing, this is great for the rear, saves a hitch block, pins etc. All you need is a shackle.

And the rest of the stuff goes on the roof in that Eylar case.

Should I always add d-ring shackles on my apex’s for recovery?
And, is that/do you have rubber on the shackle pin?
    Thanks

IMHO the rear loop, while perfectly serviceable for vehicle tie down during transport, is not suitable for recovery. The hitch adapter and shackle are a better option.

For the front, the existing loops are more than up to the task.

    See a lengthy discussion here.

You don’t have to add them. Whatever you like. There’s no rubber on the pin but there is a rubber washer on each side. You can see one in the picture.

As was said, it’s multiple bolts. If you click the link and scroll down there’s an installation video. Install took me about 45 minutes without lifting at all.
