Picking up my new 2025 Limited iForce Max 4Runner in a few days. Black with portobello interior.

Do I get the ceramic coating and whatever it is they "do" to the inside? YES, I know there are tons of other threads about this, but I'm wondering specifically on the new models (maybe something has changed) I believe it's gonna cost me $880 at the dealership.

And yes to the extended warranty, right? (so much electrical....and the hybrid factor...)

I also am seriously thinking about applying the undercoat in the fall (I'm in Michigan....lots of road salt). Not sure how much that will be, won't be from the dealer, but I think that's def worth it considering the salt in Michigan winters.

I'm not an offroader. Just a family car with dogs....driving highway a lot.

Dealers make a lot of money up selling addons. Specifically, ceramic coating would be better and cheaper if you do it at a shop that specializes in it.

As to extended warranty - make sure a) this is Toyota extended warranty and not some third-party; b) haggle on the price.

DO NOT apply tar-based undercoating, it will ruin your truck. _ONLY_ use oil or lanolin based sprays like Krown or Fluid Film.

Also, make sure to do your first oil change early. 6th gens are turbo and sensitive to oil. You can't go 10K between oil changes unless it is all highway.

    Enjoy your new truck.

I would drop anything that could be left off of the invoice... And then address it separately on my terms. This way you can ensure it actually gets performed. I will not go into my experience and opinions, but each gives lots of leeway to ensure that it has not even been applied by the selling vendor.

not a fan of extended warranties. If you feel the need to do something like that just put 300.00 a month in an account and use it for any fix outside of the factory/powertrain warranty. 67% of all warranties never get used. Ask me how I know? I work for a reputable extended warranty company.

The only thing I can offer is this: If you do choose to get any or all of these options DO NOT let the dealership include them into your auto-loan. You don't want to finance these. It'll make your monthy payment go up and that $800 you paid for the ceramic coating will baloon up in price thanks to the finance charges. Eventually it will cost you $1100 or more.

Always pay for extras like this (plus TT&L) separately.

Yeah, dealer tried to sell me a warranty on my 4R. I told him if i wanted to buy an extended warranty i would have bought a Ford.

    Didn't need anything, 100k now.

There is better than dealer ceramic now.

Personal opinion, avoid buying anything from the guy in the back room at the dealership. All of those warranties, packages, etc., can be purchased after the fact, on your own, for way better prices.

My rule of thumb, unless its on the original window sticker (not the dealer addendum), do not pay for it. These are methods the dealerships use to pad their pockets.

The ceramic they do it meh. A detailer can do a better job for just about the same money.

Always but shop around for it. Other dealers can sell it to you. There was a hookup from a dealer elsewhere but someone opened their mouth and ruined it for everyone. Toyota are not issue free as most will have your believe. On my Tacoma, the extended warranty covered headlights, windshield resealing, front prop shaft and spring packs.

I had my 2020 Tacoma "Ceramic coated" by the dealership when I did not know any better. While they did a great job on the cut and polish, they ceramic coating they used was garbage. I am actually pretty sure they just used a ceramic spray of some sort.

It lost its hydrophobic qualities after just a couple months even with proper maintenance, and they had to re-apply it numerous times before they ended up refunding me for it after I complained. Just find a reputable detail shop to do it right.

I had my Tacoma ceramic coated (and the guy did a good buff/polish job on it - to get out the swirl/spider webmarks). I had the entire thing done for $690. That was after 2yrs of abuse. Oh, after I had it done, it stayed cleaner longer and got cleaner faster. It was worth it. People always commented how much my Tacoma shined and had a "Wet" look to it.

In a few months, I'm going to do the same to my SloRunner. When I run my finger across a body panel, I can feel the gritty-ness. After it gets a ceramic coating, it will feel like wet glass. Nice and smoooooth.

That was the colour I wanted. However buying during Covid, and wanting a manual transmission meant I had to settle. When I bought my 4Runner, I told them I wanted Lime Rush, and would not settle. Waited three months but it happened! :D

If you feel you need the extended warranty 99 times out of 100 dont get it from the selling dealer. First you can wait till the 3/36 is almost done to get the Toyota extended warranty. Then look through the forums for dealers who will sell Toyota extended warranties for just above cost. My selling dealer tried to get me to buy the 10/125K for $4500, then cuz I was a nice guy he cut it to $3900. I nicely said no. I contacted the recommended dealer over on the 6G 4Runner forum and was quoted $1795 for the Toyota Gold 10/125K. Still may not get it but at least I know where to shop for it. Same thing goes for any brand of car, at least in my experience.

I picked up our 2025 Off Road Premium in May. We had a 2003 Sequoia for 22 years (think analog). Looking at this new one I purchased the extended warranty and having had several Toyotas I know all about their reliability. In my 65 years this was the first time I ever purchased and extended warranty for anything. Everything in this new ride runs through that computer and parts for vehicles and service is how dealers make their money these days. Anything goes out and you are looking at hundreds if not thousands to fix it if the factory warranty expires. I just paid $750 for a hub assembly for my Chev 2500HD. I don't want to find out what the computer or anything else would cost if it went out. Having had show quality cars I have a bit of experience with finishes. Because of our NW winters I chose to have the Zurich coating installed rather than having it ceramic coated. I have since taken it on a 5,000 mile road trip from WA to San Antonio and back. It did not attract a lot of road dirt but plenty of bugs which pretty much hosed off every few days. I think I made a good decision.

I negotiated a low price 7/100,000 extended warranty (Service agreement) with the finance manager when I purchased my 2017 SR5.
Past the 5/60,000 factory power train warrant expiration I had to replace the tranny @48,000 miles.
I have posted about this in detail, but issue was a defective Torque Converter Flex lock up clutch valve/solenoid in the tranny valve body. First Toyota authorized a new Torque Converter, shortly after getting my rig back the shudder/chatter returned. Next Toyota authorized a complete tranny with TC. So combined $8k dealer charges paid by Toyota.
I purchases the 7/100,000 thinking of all the airbags and other electronic gizmos. I never would have thought I would need it for a TRANNY.

Yep, tell the person in the F & I department no thank you to everything and get it done by an independent professional that uses a high quality ceramic product. You can get the extended warranty at a lower price down the line. At 32 miles I took my rig to a professional shop that installed clear Xpel PPF on the entire front clip, which is self-healing with a hair dryer or heat gun in the event of rock chips. Then the entire exterior with Xpel ceramic coating, including over the PPF. Many advantages to a high quality ceramic coating including UV protection and hydrophobic properties, which is still working after 17 months of ownership.

Haha, told my dealer if I wanted an extended warranty I'd be at the Jeep dealership

Bought it at 79k, at 196K it still hasn't needed enough to cover the warranty.

I turned down the 10 year extended warranty - $1200 that I don't need to spend. If there wasn't profit in it, the dealer wouldn't offer it. Told him that if it was a Ford it might be a different story...he said that if it was a Ford, it wouldn't be $1200!

Seriously, this is my 3rd 4runner, and the 6th in the family. I thought about it for a moment, given the hybrid engine and electronics, but based on the past, I couldn't do it. Now if it included oil changes, maybe, because over 10 years those suckers will be more than $1200, but it didn't.

Ha he was right about the cost of a Ford warranty. A 8-10 yr 75k warranty on a 2025 Ranger is $3,500-$4,500 for the Ford warranty.

Not to worry though so far the recalls on all the Ford products are still covered in full

It’s too bad that Ranger is one hell of a good looking mid size pickup and fast with the V6 and does not sound like a tin can

i-force Max is already under warranty through Toyota for 8years/100k mi on electric drivetrain components and battery pack for 10 years/150k mi. The 2.4T will easily outlive anyone viewing this thread today and cockroaches.

Hard pass on any extended warranty.

I know this is not apples to apples but I lived in Hawaii for 2 years, surrounded by an ocean full of salt. Rust would hit every vehicle eventually if you kept it long enough. People would put wax on their cars and drive around without buffing it out. I worked with a guy who moved to Minnesota and when it snowed the parking garage he parked in had built in water jets around the entrance and would spray down your vehicle when you entered.
