Hello, I am totally new to 4runners and may have the opportunity to pick up an 89 auto. I haven't looked at it closely but from 20' it looks to be in decent shape. I've been told it run, stops and has cold ac but needs interior work. I also see it is either missing the rear window or it's stuck in the tailgate.

What are the key issues I should look out for if I go take a closer look at the truck? Any issues that I should run from? I should add that I'm not looking to spend a fortune.

    Appreciate your guidance.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Make sure to check the underside of it. Frame for sure, no rust through holes etc. I can't imagine there will be no rust. Look for oil leaks, determine where they are coming from, do the leaks look fixable with the skills you have, or perhaps a friend's skills. Any damage like cracks, dents, or rub damage, 'E' brake cable, does the 'E' brake work? Brake lines and hoses. Just a thorough inspection.

Thanks for that Toy4x4. I'll give it a thorough inspection. I think the truck has been in California it's whole life so I wouldn't expect rust to be too much of an issue. I'm just hoping it's something I can work on while I drive occasionally.
