Looking to upgrade my ‘16 limited roof rack with TRD pro roof rack.

And no, im not trying to look “cool” I just need something better than my current rack!! And there are a handful on marketplace.

anyone know how well the oem roof racks are interchangeable between 4Runner trims? Specifically TRD pro to ‘16 limited, or even OR roof rack to ‘16 limited.

    Thanks in advance

I believe all the 4R racks are interchangeable, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone, IMO, who considers the Pro rack an upgrade. At least functionally as a roof rack.

Fair enough, thanks. I believe it’s actually designed properly - clears the shark fin antenna, recessed back for aerodynamics, doesn’t impact the sun roof at all, doesn’t impact the rear door. And I think I could get a really good deal on one since others have upgraded to the low profile over landing type racks and offload em on marketplace.
I just need to put camping gear on it once in a while. The current oem limited rack isn’t much of a rack at all, just the mounting cross bars really

If you like it, it serves your purpose, and you can pick one up at a reasonable price, it would then qualify as an upgrade in your case. I didn't mean to discourage trying that, it's just I've read so many accounts of Pro rack owners going another direction due to the size and shape of it. You're the first I've heard of trying one on a Limited.

There are aftermarket half racks that would accomplish what you need, but probably for considerably more $$$.

Oh I get it - not discouraged. the wife drives the 4R anyways as her daily, so the TRD pro rack checks all the boxes for us. Especially considering if we can get a good deal on one. Only reason I got her the limited was for the full time 4wd.
If I end up getting hands on a TRD pro rack I’ll get some measurements and post it back here if it fits

I see no reason the Pro RR wouldn't fit on any 4Runner Trim Level. The main cabs are all the same. They didn't build individual cabins for different models.

    It will fit.

I appreciate your well reasoned thought process on why you want it... but... have you considered what you are going to be carrying on the roof on these camping trips and how exactly you are going to carry it? The PRO rack is not a basket, it's basically still just a rack with crossbars same as you have already with the Ltd; it's just higher in the back and makes it harder to actually use for anything. I personally find it to be useless and as I think on it, of all the racks on all the 4Runners in all the US that I've seen while out traveling and camping - I have never seen a PRO rack in actual use.

Someone here will now post a picture of a PRO rack carrying a load of lumber and a Guatemalan family of 6 to disprove me but that's going to be the anomaly.

I had 2 FJ's, had Pro style rack, 1 4Runner TRD OR W/X Bars & Now the Pro. I like the Pro Rack looks wise. I have carried Xmas trees home & to local fire house for re-cycling, Corn in fall for decorations, I know but can't remember what else I've carried on them. Everyone has their own likes dislikes:hattip:

Yeah fair enough man, you do you, no hate. I would point out that you can Clark W Griswold a Christmas tree onto any roof so that isn't really a selling argument for the versatility of the PRO rack though...

That is true about the Xmas tree, just saying I use it when needed W/out no issues between the FJ's & this Pro 4Runner.

You bring up a good point for sure. From images it looks like there are enough cross bars to use it as a ‘basket’ lol
And the oem bolt on seemed nice. I figured if it wasnt enough cross bars I’d get a few more and toss em on there to make more.

honestly you guys might be right tho, it might still just be trash haha

mostly just like tents, ez up, maybe a couple storage totes type stuff. I got two little kids so just basic camping really. I use these NRS rafting hand tie downs which are great for anything really https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082L5R9RY

Maybe just a half cargo carrier is the way to go - if it really is that terrible using it, Which is sorta the jist I’m gettin from guys on here.
