I am over 40,000 miles and I'm starting to research a good replacement for my original stock tires.

    My truck:
    2021, 4Runner TRD ORP
It came with the usual stock set of Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek P265/70R17.
What tire would be a worthy replacement?
I do mostly on-road driving as this is my main vehicle. Some light off-road from time to time.
I live in Georgia, so cold weather and snow are not a major concern.
I will appreciate tire longevity, a quiet ride and decent mileage output.

    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Normally, I would gush over how great the Falken Wildpeaks are. I currently have these on my 4Runner, and they are in stock size. I don't have a lift and didn't want to go up in size. They have a very agressive look and so far (27k miles in) they are holding up excellent.

However, I do love the look of the new BF Goodrich KO3's. Mainly because of the large white lettering. When it's time to get new tires, this is the route I may go. They have a similar agressive stance and weigh almost the same.

I’d get the wholesale club version of the Defender LTX M/S, the X LT A/S.

Great all around tire, punches above weight off-road, I just stay away from mud.

Given your intended use, you might want a tire that falls into the category that TireRack.com refers to as On Road All Terrain. These tires tend to have a balance of streetability and off road capability that suits the use you describe, i.e. good road manners and occasional light off road use. Pay special attention to:
    • Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail
    • BFGoodrich Trail Terrain T/A
    • Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail AT
    • Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015

Nitto Terra Grappler G3s are good tires too.

I’m very satisfied with the Goodyear Wrangler Ultra Terrain I put on. Very quiet and comfortable ride.

I have a 2021 TRD OR and lived with the OEM Dunlops for about 15k miles before changing to an AT tire since my use case includes a moderate amount of off pavement driving. I went with BFG K02’s and have been very happy with them. I also live in GA fwiw..
That said, given your use case, I would suggest the Michelin Defender as it will give you great highway service with a smooth and quiet ride and will still perform just fine on gravel, forest service type roads.
Good luck with identifying a tire that meets YOUR needs.

    Cheers,
    Bob

I second this. I would recommend the Cooper Road + Trail, the tire rack reviews of this are very favorable, and there are a couple threads on this tire here and people are really liking them.

The Falkens AT4W and BFG KO3 are very popular, but just look at the tire specs on those, those are extremely heavy even in the factory size. The heavier the tire, the larger the hit to performance and mileage that you will take.
