Need a new windshield. How much did you pay? Are you happy with it? Any leaks? I will not be going through my insurance.

I did go through insurance and i paid the $500 deductible. If i remember correctly it was a little north of $1,000. I took it to a safelight shop. Been a year and no issues at all.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    $500???

Dude, my insurance (and most carriers) only have a $50 deductible for glass repair.

OP: I haven’t had the windshield on my 4Runner replaced, but I had it replaced on my 2021 Tacoma (when I owned it). A trucking company paid to have it replaced, because it was their fault. They paid out of pocket to keep it off the insurance books.

I went with OEM glass; which doubled the cost and all the sensors/cameras and calibration also raised the cost. All in, $1,700.00

I had Safelite do the work and they got it done in under 3 hours. I had zero issues with it after they fixed it. No gaps/leaks or issues going through the car wash.

For 2017 4Runner I paid $310 or $314 in total to Safelite for their generic glass. Name like Fuyako or similar. I'm not happy with it. Its weak compared to original glass. leaves a mark on the glass with every tiny dirt hit on the glass. Next time I would try my best to get a Toyota glass.

Yep. I had the same installed and it's Chinese garbage. I'll pay the extra next time for some quality glass.

$245, Google find. Used OEM mouldings that I provided . Decent job. No wind noise or leaks and I can see clearly day/night.

the $500 was because it was accident related as opposed to a rock flying up.

Is OEM the only option for decent glass now?

That is the total. parts + labor + dispose old glass + tax, everything. (I might have posted a pic of the bill in this forum somewhere.)
I chose to go to a safelite location in person (it was very close to my house, 1.5 or 2miles) expecting best install quality. Installation was 99% good except the center mirror covered showed itty bitty damage.

i think it happens to both cheap and OEM but mico chips seem to appear way more with the generic. When you drive and the sunlight hits just right it looks like there is glitter on your windshield. OEM is well worth it.

I'm not sure if it's the ONLY option, but at least you know what you're getting, and that's quality. For example, I have a 2003 Tundra with original glass! It's had a few dings that have been repaired, but here we are 22 years later and it's still going. Is it pitted? Yeah. But I've never had a crack run in 3 repairs. I've learned my lesson with cheap glass on the 4R. And that's a good lesson for most parts. Go OEM. Buy once, cry once.

Similar to catbrown, my 13 had several chips that I had fixed (epoxy fill). Never had a crack, nothing ran or spread, and never had the dreaded glitter effect that others have posted.

Paid just under 1100 for the OEM glass and 2 moldings on my 22, no sensor recalibration.

Did the sensors not need it or was that extra?

I had the install done at a local glass place. My car is heavily modified and we were both worried it would not calibrate correctly. I have had no issues.

They were able to use OEM glass? Didn't know non-dealers would do that. Thanks.

Too many to list & Worth every penny!
I had mine replaced before with PPG glass that was wavy at the top very bad. (See photo).
It was very easy to see when looking at the overhead pipe rack when I drove it to work.
I was told by an independent that the mold that the glass was made in was warped and QC didn’t catch the issue. Brought it back to SAFELITE, pointed it out and they replaced it with OEM at my request. (After speaking with my ins co.)

Correct. Most reputable places will offer OEM glass too, you just have to ask. Glass guys went through a local dealership for glass and the moldings. I've learned through experience that OEM glass is superior to aftermarket in many cases.

I had mine done (2019 TRD Off-Road) at the dealer. They ordered in the correct Toyota glass. But the dealer called in an outside glass shop to do the actual install. Total cost was just over $1000 CAD, but with insurance I only had to pay $500 CAD.

    No regrets.

My 2011 Limited windshield was replaced by Glass America for $500. I got a PGW windshield.

I was satisfied and no leaks. I wasn’t able to get a warranty though because my a-pillars were rusted from whoever poorly replaced the windshield prior to me getting the vehicle. The guy had to grind so much rust off.

Was that from scraping the paint removing the sealant?

I was quoted $349 for a Fuyao, installed.

Not sure where the rust came from as that windshield was installed prior to me owning the vehicle, but that’d be my guess.

My previous one was Fuyao and was fine, but I’ve heard mixed on Fuyao in general. They are a Toyota OEM for some glass.

Same, heard good, bad and in between. The price is certainly right. Seems it's cheap glass or OEM, not much in between.
