Creative nut for molle panel mount

I've been annoyed at why there are not affordable molle panel mounts out there...or a simple solution that helps attach molle panel stuff on the side rear panel window molle thing (see Cali Raised interior molle panels). I can't easily get my hand behind the panel or hold anything in place before my hand starts cramping or I drop the stupid nut/bolt/washer. I found these drawer pulls at Ace for 4 bucks a piece. I trimmed them to 18mm and the little 1mm extrusion fits perfectly. It doesn't spin and it's easy to hold. It's $4 which I wish was cheaper. I am working on a Blender design that I'll test and drop here when done. Hope this is helpful.

 

I agree! The caliraised molle panels fit nice, but make it really hard to get your fingers back there, even if it’s just to get an actual molle strap back there.

I’ve used assorted velcro straps to tie on lighter things. I’ve also used u-bolt body clips for things I’ve wanted to screw down. This might be a cheaper alternative that would work for somethings. although iJust happened to see a big selection of these u-bolts at my hardware store, grabbed a few sizes, and one of them clipped on perfect. They rattle around when loose, but once you put a bolt on them, they clamp down tight.

Just a thought, you might want to go with something that is not plastic with a molded in insert. My thinking is that, depending on the weight of the item attached to the panel and the bouncing around of said object on trails, the insert might start pulling out of the plastic knob then your stuff may start falling off.
If you want to stick to a knob style, I'd look into something like this. The aluminum knob is threaded, no insert to pop out.

I do like that idea but it helps to be able to be cut so it fits tightly in the space. I am not sure I could effectively grind it down, but I totally get your point about longevity.

 

Here is the details on the plastic knob. I also found a easier to grip knob but it didn't have the 1mm lip. I'll try this new one and see if it works too.

 

Option 2 works great as well.

 

Just a use update - I have not had any of the nuts break or loosen yet!

Side note, I'm working on a Velcro design that is easy to strap stuff onto a molle panel with limited need to go behind it with your hand. I'll get some images up soon.
