Interior led kits

was wondering what kits you guys have bought for yours?? Looking to purchase some this weekend

 

My recommendation- don't buy a kit. Buy the bulbs individually (some come in sets of 2). The Philips Ultinons from Amazon are great interior bulbs, as are the Sylvania Zevos (available locally). I used the Zevos in my Tacoma and the Ultinons in my T4R. Happy with all of them.

They're just better quality bulbs than you'll get in a kit. And for something that's gonna be there for years, what little extra it is in initial cost is worth it (in my opinion). And the cost difference isn't that much, really.

I would listen to @4runningMan 's recommendations and also stay away from kits, especially anything from PrecisionLED. They ripped me off and their customer service is horrendous, in other words, there is no customer service.

has anyone put one red and one white led in the map light area?

 

I have red in both map lights now and regular in the dome light. Today I just bought green led's for the map lights cuz I think the green is going to be better to read with. It's kind of hard to read things with the red.

 

thanks for your reply. im thinking about night vision type stuff. never considered green, to be honest. does green also not kill your night vision?

 

With red, our eyes adjust from light to dark more easily. With blue/green, it takes longer for the eyes to adjust back to dark conditions.

You'll see people that use telescopes use red flashlights as when they look through the telescope they're better able to see dimly lit stars. If they used "white" flashlights, the eye wouldn't be able to see the dim stars through the telescope (or it would take a couple minutes for the eye to adjust back to seeing in the dark).

So, if you're driving down a dark highway and want to turn the light on for a moment, when you turn a red light back off, your eyes will adjust more easily to the road.

 

Green or Red are good for night vision.

This is an old version of the Philips 921 that I've used before. They're hard to find now. But they have a led in the silver part that actually points toward the base of the bulb. There is a pyramidal mirror that the led faces and it reflects the light in all directions. So, no matter the reflector/housing type, it's gonna get some light. Effective design.

The newer versions of the Philips bulb (next post) only shine light in two directions. So it's kind of a gamble as to whether it will work in a particular reflector/housing.

 

These are the more recent versions of the Philips. I'd be curious to know how they work. Anyone wanna take one for the team and try them out?

No problem. Yeah that bulb will fit the 4runner. No idea what kind of light it will put out via the 4runner's reflector design. It's different than the Tacoma design, so you need to take that in consideration when reading reviews. That said, it could end up being a great bulbun the runner. Be the Guinea Pig?

 

i am going to look into the reflector design, but these look decent overall. i may just be the guinea pig!

 

The issue is that those bulbs shine light in two directions (for the most part); whereas an OEM halogen shines light 360°.

So, that bulb may not hit all areas of the reflector like the OEM bulb does, thereby resulting in decreased useful light behind the truck. But it's also possible this could be overcome by the LED's directed from the top of the bulb.

It's very difficult to predict how a particular bulb will fare in a housing. All you can do is try it out.

 

Will these bulb numbers work for a 2016 Limited as well?

I just installed the interior LED kit from Hidkitpros.com in my 19 TRD Pro. Got everything in “cool white.” I’m super happy with it, and it was pretty easy to swap out.

 

I orderd my license plate and reverse lights from xeon depot when i did my hi and low beams. I think they use phillips for those bulbs in particular and work great. I plan on doing the rest of the interior at a 5000-5500k temp when i find all the phillips on Amazon i need.

 

The Ultinons are great bulbs.
