I’m looking at powder coating a set of factory 17” wheels for my 2006 Sport, I just haven’t found anything I really like except these, and I just saw a set in gloss black and they look great. The question is, if I decide I want to widen stance a bit (probably 1”), can I safely do this with hubcentric spacers, and can it eventually cause wheel bearing wear (or other premature damage)? I’d love to find some aftermarket wheels that have the desired look and offset for what I want to spend, but I’m considering doing the powdercoat as an alternative. I know there are a lot of threads on this topic but they’re kind of all over the place, anyone with actual experience chime in please.

If you must do it. Buy quality spacers like spidex. Stay away from Amazon

I dont think you can do a 1" because of how long the OEM studs are. You will most likely have to grind the studs down or go with a wider spacer. I think (could be wrong) that you gotta do at least 1.5" to keep from having to grind the studs down.

This particular wheel has pockets between lug holes, so the stud tips protruding past the spacer won't cause a problem.

These wheels have +30mm offset. Adding a 1" (25.4mm) wheel spacer changes the offset to +4.6mm, about the same as the TRD Pro/SEMA wheels. Effect on wheel bearing wear will be the same as well.

Trail Gear makes 1" spacers: https://trail-gear.com/wheel-spacer-kit-1-6x5-5-hub-centric-aluminum.html

I had SpiderTrax on those exact wheels. No issues. Be sure to follow the directions and torque specifications and use the prescribed threadlocker.

Somehow people have gotten confused and put the spacer lugnuts on inside out so double-check. I also recheck the torque every time I have the wheels off. I’ve never found a loose one.

Before and after (tires were stock 265/65s then):

There’s a set of FJ wheels I really like with 15mm offset, that’s about 1/2” more poke than my stocks. That would be perfect, but every set I find on Marketplace is at least 3 hours away…

Just put on Spidertrax 1.25” spacers 2 days ago. I like my 4runner even more! :D (Stock 5th Gen wheels)

Looks great. IMO the stance with spacers is how the 4th Gen should come from the factory. Mudflap delete is an improvement too.
