You probably should have bought a couple of them like that . The ones from the dealer now say 17801-YZZ13 and don’t have the pre filter. Parts guy said that’s all that comes in now .

I mentioned this on a previous filter thread, the off road trails are extremely dusty in my area so I saved my old filter for off road use and use my newer filter on road.

Local Lexus dealer says they have the pre-filter in stock for 24 bucks . The Toyota dealer right next door said it’s not available anymore and it’s been superseded by the skinny non pre filter . ( 17801-YZZ13 ).
Probably going to drive over to Lexus and check it out . The GX and the 4Runner use the same filter and my wife drives a GX.

I got a stack of about 9 of the thick boys with the pre filter. Local dealer has the skinny one.

I put them in a plastic bag and save them for over the years. Hopefully they’ll stay good

Haha yeah. I was up at fort Myers Toyota too, and they have the thin ones. So I ordered online, and got the thick ones. I live on airport & pine ridge so you’d think shipping would be fast, but takes like 2-3 weeks lol

What’s your experience with Germain? I only bought my runner there, haven’t been there for service yet

On my 24 ORP I do my own oil changes and rotation. On my 2010 TE which I bought new from them all the service for 80k miles was done there . I was satisfied and used the same service advisor for 12.5 years before being sold.
I did see right before it was sold that one of the skid bolts was snapped off .

I get nervous with lifetime filters. You need to oil them to be effective. Too much oil, you damage your MAF sensor, too little and you dont get the performance. Ask me how i know about the MAF sensor?

That's why you don't buy the lifetime filters that need oil. Dry "Life time" filters have come a long way from the old K&N constant clean and oiling. Ill still replace my AEM every ~6 years or so though, but It actually filters better as you use it.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but the left side of the filter appears to be pretty dirty to me. I would change it out personally (cheap insurance).

Purolator One, Wix, and the Napa (not sure whether it's the Proformer or Gold) all have the thick filters with the pre-filter on them. Wix makes the Napa filter.

Also, the thinner filters from Toyota have more pleats than the thick filters.

There's been debate over the years that maybe the thin filters provide as much filtration as the thick ones because of the increased number of pleats.

Well some nerd on here (a hearty thank you to you sir) actually did the math and found out the thicker filter has more surface area, so it is indeed the better choice if maximum filtration is your goal. Plus it has the pre-filter as a cherry on top.......and who doesn't like a pre-filter??

My last order of filters from rock auto (Wix) and that still had the pre-filter, I've only used Wix air and cabin filters on both of my 4Runners now.
EDIT: I meant my previous 2013 and my current 2023, thanks.

It was worth a try Nick! I think I’ve seen your truck, or someone else’s. There is maybe 2-3 underground’s around my area.
Anyways I just thought we might have known eachother lol!

mines just a boring sr5 4x4. I like to blend in lol. Silver, lol, but that is hard to narrow down. Anyways I’ll honk next time I’m near an underground all blacked out and looking good!
