New here, apologies if already a discussion. Thinking of putting passenger tires on to improve gas mileage. Any recommendations for tires?

Welcome aboard! And show us what you have.

Stock tires is what should be probably the best for MPG. However, from a brand perspective I hear Pirelli and Firestone have decent reviews for stock only applications. Good luck!

Thank you! I have heard great things about the Pirelli tires as well. Thank you again for the quick response.

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 is a popular option for a highway tire. A more affordable alternative is the Kumho Crugen HT51. I would also consider the Yokohama Geolandar HT.

In any case, be sure to get the SL version, not an LT, as they'll be lighter.

The OEM tires these came with are generally not great. My Dunlops were gone within 3 weeks.

What tires do you currently have and how much life they have left? Unless your existing tires already used up, it is unlikely you will recoup replacing them.

Insofar as passenger tires, I second Michelin Defender recommendation.

I see Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 recommended a lot for a good OEM replacement. However if you ever want recommendations on how to kill MPG i can give some great options.

I have Michelin Defenders too and love them.

I doubt you'll get much improvement in fuel economy regardless of which tires you choose over stock.

Personally I think the last thing you want on any vehicle is a low rolling resistance tire; I want tires that provide traction.

Thanks to all of you for your input. The tire’s currently on Abrams (we name our vehicles in my family) are in great shape. They would be kept/stored. Looks like the tires in the front are Avanta AT 850 and the rear are Klever AT 2.

Not good to have miss matched tires. Maybe sell them? Ether way got to get matching new ones all around.

If you want the best fuel mileage you need to choose tires with a characteristic not usually advertised, and that's low rolling resistance. Consumer Reports, for one, tests for rolling resistance - and the Michelin Defender, either M/S or A/T - is at the top of the list.

Also choose a tire that is light and skinny, and keep the air pressure on the high side.

What’s this thing you refer to, “gas mileage”?

Once the Sailun tires I had wore out got the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Smooth and quiet.

Vote for Michelin Defender 2. Have them on my Highlander AWD. Highlanders have great mileage.
On the T4R - I have Toyo OC AT now
However, If gas mileage is of concern. You probably picked the wrong Vehicle. V6 and V8 drink gasoline.
    I bought if for longevity > 10yrs +

I got 77k miles out of the stock Dunlops and they still rode pretty well at the end. But I put Michelin Defender LTX's on everything we own. Had great ride and wear out of them

I also tossed the OEM Dunlops immediately. I put on Continental Terrain Contact H/T- fantastic grip in the rain so far.

I will also vote for the Defender. You will probably seek a Touring tire M+S rated. The stock SR5 runner's tire is usually a All Season tire. Mediocre at everything (which is why many criticize them).
Since you went to the expense to purchase and maintain a part-time 4WD suv with excellent slipery surface capability, you should try to install tires that offer the best traction for your needs.

Longevity only if you maintain everything. 4WD SUV's have lots of lubrication and fluid change needs. Reliablity is relative to other 4WD SUV's that break parts parts when used in 4WD.

Another vote for the Michelins. I put them on my 2009 Tacoma and it made a world of difference on the highway (which I spent all my time driving on to work).

Had the Firestone Destination LE2 earlier. A decent all round on road tire. Then had the Destination LE3. Again decent.
Now running the Michelin Defender. A better tire in every sense. But it killed my mpg.

Went with the Defender LTX M/S2 after way too much research. The firmer ride provided by the XL load rating is great; you can feel the suspension doing its job rather than trying to make up for bad tires. Not as quiet as I expected, but the stock Dunlops were completely silent... Minor balance issues, but Discount Tire is willing to do what it takes to solve the problem.
