What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Ok, first off, where do you find water to kayak on in Arizona? And what do you do to protect your paint? We're moving my daughter to Tucson in August for grad school, she wants my 4runner but she's taking her Rav4.

Gave it a good washing and cleaning!

 

Started my 4.56 swap today. Bearings are installed, ring and pinion gears are installed, and backlash set for a gear pattern tomorrow (not pictured). Just tackling the rear this weekend....

 

Upgraded to LED lights and foglights, oil change at 130k, and added some emblem for added 5 horsepower

late last night had time to pop radiator support cover off to re-install / wire the removed grill lightbar (28”).

followed through with my idea to utilize black nylon spacers from work & ss hardware to lower the bar off L brackets I put in, until perfectly center in grill.
before, it was quite high and UNACCEPTABLE.

Knocked out some service (diffs+transfer case fluids, oil) then took another 4500 mile road trip.

Picked up a slow tire leak along the way, never did find the hole but luckily had a full size spare and the excellent Sprinter bottle jack. Would have been even better if I had programmed the 5th TPS but I'll take a warning light over putting in air at every fill-up. Starlink mini also came in clutch.

Spent a while this morning repairing rock chips (grrr), using a Dr Colorchip kit. That’s a neat kit, y’all, and matches perfectly.

Wheels and tires installed this morning. Debated 265’s vs 285’s for months. In the end I kept my current Fox Pro setup and went with 265’s.

Very pleased with the look of the wheels and tires. The 17x8 FN(x) wheels add an extra .55” track width. This is the perfect subtle improvement I was looking for with the leveling I currently have. Dustin was a pleasure to work with.

Discount Tire did manage to scratch my front fender but took care of it. I will be able to paint correct it out.

The tires are Goodyear Ultraterrian AT. Incredibly smooth and quiet. They don’t feel and sound like an AT tire. Psi set to 35 cold.

 

I installed the Eibach Stage 2 lift kit and a set of BFG KO3's, in 285/70R17 on the 4Runner this past weekend. Haven't had it aligned yet, but thinking about bringing the front down a little bit. Does it look level or nose high to you?

 

It look about level, hard to tell. Put a ruler to the 4Runner.
You don’t want it completely level if you haul or add weight to the rear, that’ll give you reverse rake and blind oncoming vehicles at night.

Thanks, I think I'm going to lower it a bit tonight; I only wanted 2" of lift and I think I got close to 3 on the driver's side and almost 3.5 on the passenger. My driveway isn't level so I'm not sure if my measurements are totally accurate.

 

Find a parking lot that looks level and take your measurements. That would be a good place to start.

 

I finally got it back from the body shop today. FINALLY. Not gonna lie, after I pulled into the garage I kissed it and said "I've missed you". Then I kissed it again because I'm weird like that.






I did inspect the work and paint very carefully. It looks pretty darn good. There is one minor thing that I caught (and they'll fix later this week). There's a bit of over spray where the bumper meets the body. You can't see it unless you run your finger along the seem, but I'm so OCD that I caught it.

 

Where did you get those fender flares?

 

@djwantke since we've discussed beers before, your thoughts on this?

And to cover what I did to 4R today, gave that thirsty bastard a full tank of gas. $30 with fuel points.

 

Make sure to look at your car from multiple angles and light sources. I too had a repair done and found some minor bubbles. Then I let the sun hit it from a different angel and found another. It helps to have a second pair of eyes too for another opinion, not from the body shop of course.
