Wheel Spacers

Anyone have any experience with wheel spacers? If so how do I go about them and how do I pick the correct offset/tire?

 

I consider them a safety/mechanical liability, but what's your objective?

Suggest buying proper wheels that meet OPs width and offset needs instead of wheel spacers.

 

not a fan of wheel spacers, i think it adds stress to the wheel bearings plus people are slapping on cheap ones and having a wheel fall off. If any accessory I am considering has the risk of your wheel falling off, count me out. Just buy the correct wheel offset.

 

I have good quality wheel spacers (Spidertrax) combined with stock OffRoad wheels. Have had them on for maybe 100k miles or so. No issues if installed properly and checked on occasion. No wheel bearing issues.

Because of the length of the rear lugs, the smallest spacer you can go is 1.25". I wouldn't recommend going bigger.

The combo of OR wheels and a 1.25" wheel spacer has the advantage of widening the track width without sticking outside of the fender flares. If you have the stock SR5 wheels, the result would be the same. Stock PRO wheels will start poking outside the fender flares.

If you want to keep stock wheels but want more track width for stability, they are a great option. If you're already getting new wheels anyways, might as well just get whatever offset you want to begin with and forego the wheel spacers.

 

Come on people, the man asked for advice if you have wheel spacers, not a lecture on why negative offset wheels are superior to the use of wheel spacers. Of course you’re absolutely correct. It’s less safe and more stressful on your truck lol.

But, @Yotacruiser11 if you go the route of wheel spacers, such as I, choose Spidertrax brand - most popular depth is 1.25”. At least if you’re using your truck moderately it’s not that bad and you can always take them back off and have less poke, as opposed to a high offset wheel.

Advice:

• could probably use orange or blue loctite, or silver anti seize, instead of red loctite like I did.
• be aware and prepared that once they’re installed, the scrub radius or whatever of your wheel will now be altered, whereby a tire larger than 265 can have a high chance of rubbing the fenders, liner, body mount

 

Ran a set of Bora 1/4" on my Tacoma without issues. I initially purchased them because my tires would rub on the shock reservoirs with my stock wheels. I still have them and may run on the Runner because the front tires sunk in after lifting. I wouldn't get anything like 3" spacers.

Been running them for years with no issues.

 

Agree, they might be more expensive but you pay for quality. I've been running 1.25" spidertrax for years and no issues. Problems come when you over torque the wheel studs.

 

But your underwear.. did it survive?

Just looked at my maintenance log and I’ve had Spidertrax on my ‘07 Sport for 6.5 years and 110K miles. On roads, trails, and rock gardens with zero issues. IMO, the stance is how 4th Gens should look from the factory. Before and after:




More recent pic after moving up to 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country tires. Rears look like they’re out past the fenders but it’s just the angle.

 

I tried them. The cheap KSP ones lol. I loved the look but I couldn't deal with the shimmies at 58-62 mph. Plus they caused some rubbing in reverse. Sent 'em back.
