I have a 2002 4Runner SR5, chrome on body and bumper is all in great condition no rust anywhere and I had the underbody replaced a couple years ago. Only 175,000 miles but the engine needs to be fully replaced. I'm being quoted $7622 for the replacement. I ultimately want to sell the car once repaired if I can get $10k or more.

Is it worth paying for the engine replacement? My concerns are the labor could wind up over estimate and a potential buyer will be less interested with a replaced engine.

I don't think you would have a problem selling with a replaced engine if it's all documented. Including the kilometers of the replacement engine would be the most important thing IMO>

I think it’ll be lower overall risk to sell it as-is rather than spend the money and hope to make it back.

Whoever buys it can figure out what they want to do to get it rolling again.

i think this would be a plus for the potential buyer. Is it a new or rebuilt motor or is it one coming from the junkyard.
