Just about every modern vehicle has this problem. Gets really bad with aftermarket accessories. One common theme from the article you posted is the owners are letting the vehicles sit for a week or more.

In my ‘21 ORP, I have a Garmin Dash Cam Mini powered with the Garmin Constant Power Cable via the OBD connector. I can only use the “10m” setting (powers cam for ten minutes after vehicle shutoff). I had to replace the original battery at 2.5 years old.

Even with a new battery, If I use the “24h” or “infinity” set, it will kill my battery within a week. The “24h” setting (powers 24 hours after vehicle shutoff) will cause weak starting if not driven over a weekend. That’s just a dash cam drawing 80-150mA.

Mine are stock and no issues with parasitic drain, I can park mine for weeks at a time and starts right up. Last time I parked one of mine for almost 2 months and the engine cranked over with a little hesitation but turned over anyway. I don't have anything hardwired in, just a dashcam that plugs into the 12v that shuts off when accessories are off.

I do park mine inside the garage so maybe that helps. temperature fluctuation shortens battery life quite a bit.

Fully stock here, no issues so far. It isn't the only vehicle I have, so 4Runner often sits for week or longer if the weather is nice. Starts every time.

Definitely not inherent, I would not expect a modern vehicle’s battery to drain only from a week or two of sitting without something going awry.
