Front plate appears to have bumped OCI as the most hotly contested debate of the day...next up - Raptor lights.

Can we go back to e-brake protocol for a few clarifications?

Sure, with a quick side track through KDSS, yes or no?

I was hoping we could talk about a rust spot on my trailer hitch before we got into KDSS. Should I warranty?

The rust most likely originated with the TRD intake, so warranty will be iffy.

I remember seeing signs driving in Maryland about those cameras and tickets being mailed out. Thank God we don’t have those here in Michigan. I don’t understand the logic though if you loan the car to a brother or friend etc and they mail the ticket to the owner. I guess their interpretation is that the owner of the car is responsible at all times for the speed and actions of the vehicle.

I think it’s because this is the 5th Gen forum and we are old school here now. Not too much else to talk about

Can’t easily identify the person driving without a traffic stop and ideally the owner would know who is responsible. Hopefully closes the “You got the plate but I don’t know who was driving” hit-and-run loophole.

My now ex son-inlaw (they divorced) is a Dallas, Texas police officer. Texas requires front plates.

Once when he and my daughter were visiting at our place in central TX, he observed that I didn’t have front TX plates on either of our vehicles. I asked if that was going to be a problem. (I was from Michigan, where front plates are not required on passenger vehicles, and thought front plates looked like crap on a vehicle, so I didn’t install the front plates when we moved to TX.) Wifey and I had been driving in TX for over 4 years at that point without front TX plates.

He told me he never bothered giving chase if he came across a vehicle without its front TX plate, unless the driver had committed a traffic infraction, and then he would also cite them for no front plate. But he says it depends on the cop. He knew some fellow cops who would pull a driver over just for no front plate. So there ya go.

My wife became nervous after hearing him say that and made me put the front plate on her car. Shortly after that, I also begrudgingly put the front plate on my truck as well.

I once dated a woman from Pittsburgh and I’m from Michigan. We were considering marriage but neither of us wanted to relocate. She suggested Cleveland as it’s half way between our families. I told her no way was I moving to Ohio and putting a front plate on my truck and cars at the time. She thought I was kidding.

In states like California, to contest a ticket, at least used to be this way, you have to show up to court in most cases. The red light tickets can go up to 7-800 dollars when all the fees and court costs are added, so it would depend on how much time and money the out of state license holder wants to put into it. If the recipient doesn't show up then it is automatically upheld.

Most county level judges are more likely to side with the cops since it is a easy revenue generator.

And if the officer doesn’t show up it’s automatically dismissed.

In California a missing license plate is a fix-it ticket. The fee is minimal if you fix it and have it inspected in the specified time. But it’s a pain.

The time and money for out of staters to get it inspected by a POST certified LEO in CA though, is how they get you.

Easy enough for people in NV, AZ and southern OR but if any further, pain in the rear indeed.

Yes. I have been driving my 2019 with my plate zip tied there since 2020. It's fine, even in very warm weather.

(And if that's not enough, go look at the 5th Gen Limited front end, there is far less of an opening given the front-end design.)

Zip tying your license plate to your grill looks like shit.

But you risk cancer and reproductive harm driving in California.

Well, what I actually did is attach a license place mount to the grille, then screwed it on to the mount for a very clean look, but whatever. Either approach looks a lot better than screwing some additional chunk of plastic onto the front of your bumper because you live in a state where it's really important to stamp two pieces of metal per car.

Go ahead put it on with zip ties, air flow won't be a problem. Just makes sure to carry extra zip ties with in case they weather rot off.
