Stock 265 vs 285 tires, is it really worth all the trouble?

    The input isn’t really of much use unless people also include information regarding the type of roads/conditions they drive on in my opinion.

    255/80/17 is a popular size alternative to 285/70/17. They're a pinch taller, but can be easier to fit due to being narrow.

    Yup. A couple of the Tacomaworld guys I hang out with have them and I haven't heard any complaints. I think skinnies look weird on 4Runners, but that's just my opinion.

    I didn’t take many before pictures with the stock 265s but these are 275s(the pic with the Thule box) with no lift just to give you some more context. I’ll try to remember to post more pictures when I install the 2” dobinsons I bought in a couple weeks.

    This makes me want to ask a wider question: why does the conversation revolve around 265 vs 285 and exclude any mention of 275? I ask out of ignorance, not judgment.

    limited selection of 275 tires.

    I think Falken is the only player in the 275/70R17 category, and they’re about 11 heavier than the P285/70R17 Toyo AT3

    275’s would be a great choice for many, however most 275’s are E load, with the exception of the Wildpeaks.

    Yeah that was a concern for me as well. On weight are you talking about the AT4Ws? I think I remember them being especially heavy. I got the AT3Ws on a close out sale specifically trying to avoid extra weight.

    An LT tire is going to be heavier than a comparable sized P-metric standard load tire.

    among LT tires, Falkens tend to be heavy compared to competitors; that applies to AT3W and AT4W models. That said BFG KO3s are significantly heavier than KO2s, so maybe the weight is a product of current technology?
