As a comparable, IIHS rates Tacoma a Top Safety Pick, which arguably is good news for what is the structurally similar 4Runner.

However, while the NHTSA has not fully completed its overall rating on Tacoma, it has so far reported 3-star for front impact, 5-star for side impact. So, mixed bag. I’m interested in seeing the full results.

I’m interested to see if all the extra poofiness toyota added to the exterior is going to pay off in crash testing!

Maybe the insurance crash test people will get to it first before the government agency. The insurance people do those really mean corner impact tests that tend to unzipper a lot of cars.
