Has anyone done anything neat with these 12V/120W outlets in the rear of the center console? I was hoping to get some USB action going on back there for my kids. Was just going to buy a plug-in but then I remembered: last one I had caught fire (to be fair, it was a Honda).
I also had bought a non-OEM USB port for under the stereo off Amazon and that didn't last a year so I bit the bullet and bought a replacement USB port from Toyota. Hence, I'm hoping for recommendations that don't catch fire and don't crap out within 12 months. Appreciate any and all feedback! 12V 4Runner.jpg

Man. Great question. Never thought of it but agree with you about Amazon sht. You don’t need an electrical issue. I stopped buying off of Amazon. Too much low quality and counterfeit sht

An adapter from a reputable brand should do fine, I have one by Anker that has been in service since 2017ish and still kicking. (but obviously a sample size of one is not statistically significant)

Skip no name cheap ones, especially if the regulatory text on them is sketchy and poorly written. I wouldn’t have much issue with the Best Buy in-house brand either.

Just a plug-in-the-lighter adapter with USB from Anker, icebear?

I spent some more time on this topic this evening. A lot of the posts out there are related to tweak them so you have power all the time. I'm not looking to plug in a fridge or anything so I'm not getting that fussy. But it also looks like replacing the lighter plugs is not as easy as I was hoping. Hence, a USB adapter is probably where I'll go.

Yep, with two USB-A ports on it. It’s not as fast as many today but it works.

I forgot to mention but I recommending skipping Amazon due to their inventory mixing system.

TL;DR it receives and dumps (what should be) identical products into a big bin at the warehouse and just grabs from it when ordered.

It’s great for speed, it’s bad for ensuring you bought a product from the buyer you thought you were buying from. counterfeits can make their way in easily and appear to come from a reputable seller that way.

That, and their website design de-emphasizes the seller. Something as simple as selecting a six-pack over buying one can quietly change who you’re buying from.
