Does parking at the Walmart parking lot count as "scenic?" Gotta start with the shaded areas in the warm months ahead in Missi'ppi.

Not going to lie...if I saw your truck in a parking lot, I'd probably start walking towards it on accident...

I took a trip to the middle of nowhere today. It's not very scenic, but it's awesome to be in such a remote area and not another soul around. Southeast Oregon.

I'm envious that you're on Highway 12. What an incredible road. I've done it many times and never get tired of it.

Yeah I made sure we ran it end to end. I've been on it several times, also on a bike same as you, and it's epic. Maybe one of the best drives in the country, honestly. That transition from high rocky desert to mountains is awesome. We also ran 14 and that was pretty great, too. Never been on that before.

Agreed, I can't get enough of the highways that transition from desert to alpine. My absolute favorite road in North America, for that exact reason, is the 149, in Colorado. Driving it either direction is good, but south to north is stunning.

Try 36 in California. Coastal redwoods to mountains to desert canyons to a volcano.....

Yep, did that a few years back, but the opposite direction, Reno to Fortuna. I'm at the point now where it's almost tough to find a highway west of Kansas that I haven't driven or ridden. :D

We lived in Durango for 20 years. 145 from Dolores to Telluride is pretty great, in a truck. But 141 in far western Colorado from Naturita to Whitewater is the best motorcycle highway in the state, by far, followed closely by 92 from Blue Mountain Reservoir to Paonia.

You mean 145? yeah, that's a great one too, but not up there with the 149, at least in my opinion. And yep, 141 has excellent twisties.

92 would be better on a bike, but I've only done it in the 4Runner. Hwy 50 was closed, and I thought "hey, this will be a quick alternate route"...:der:

Sorry, you are correct. A little Friday afternoon PUI here. On one of our motorcycle trips southbound on 149, outside of Creed, we came too close to colliding with the biggest bull moose crossing the highway I have ever seen. Our favorite place to stay on 149 is the Antlers Lodge just west of Creed. I highly recommend staying in one of their cabins the next time you get back there. Awesome restaurant as well!

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to give it a go. My pup and I stayed at an old 2-story bed and breakfast right downtown Creede last time we stayed overnight (we usually just do the whole thing in a day on our way to somewhere else), but I always love hearing about other good places to stay.
