Took delivery of 6th Gen TRD Pro, got home and thought the ride was hard, and then...

I've been driving the 6th Gen TRD Pro for about a week and noticed that the ride was pretty hard (relative to my 5th gen). Chocked it up to a different suspension but didn't think much about it. Took it off road for the first time today (barely) and I was bouncing all around. I figured out how to check my tire pressure and saw that the tires (including the spare) were at 55psi(!) which I'm guessing was around 50 psi cold. WTF?!

I looked at the manual and it seems the recommended cold tire inflation pressure is 33psi. I texted the dealer to ask why they did that and no response yet.

Has anyone heard of this happening or was my situation just an anomaly?

Cars tires are usually filled up to the max air pressure during transit to avoid flatspots when sitting stationary for a long time. Every car maker does it, the 4Runner probably more so since it has to get on the ship, get to a US port, then wait there for port processing, then get on a rail or car carrier, then get delivered to each dealership.

Dealers are supposed to do pre-delivery inspections and make necessary adjustments but things do fall through the crack all the time. I wouldn't worry about it.

When I took delivery of my last 3/4 ton truck the rear tires were filled up to 80psi. I thought my kidneys were going to break into pieces every time I hit a small crack in the road, and I swore my teeth fillings were gonna come loose even though I have no fillings. LOL.

I found out that trails are much more fun when you air down

From 39 to 23 made it feel like butter

The first 3 miles... we're a little rough so to speak

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Pre-delivery inspection fail. I think they over-inflate tires to ship them so there wouldn't be flat spots.

Dealer failed to do the pre delivery inspection for what they are obligated to do.

lol someone forgot a step in the PDI, thats transport psi

^Lol bank on the PDI not done besides the obvious stuff visible to the customer, like plastic sheets removed from the footwells and floor mats put in.

My former father-in-law had an oil change at his dealer. Engine was making noise when he got it home. They hadn’t refilled the oil. Dash light didn’t come on either. They installed a new engine.

Happy to see at least your dealer confirmed four wheels were properly attached to your Pro.

Toyota dealers post pandemic can give you serious heartburn unless you check their work for them. Whether it’s paint, fit & finish, phone connectivity, whatever…know that if you are considering purchasing any TNGA-F Toyota, you are the final quality inspector.

Dealers and tire shops are terrible for doing this. When I replaced my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport with a brand new 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport I was surprised how rough it rode. Checked the pressure and it was very high.

Tires should be a big factor and deflate to the numbers stated in the door jamb.

Also if I can remember the 6th gen Fox have 3 levels of adjustability and maybe check that if its on the softest setting while you are on pavement. (I haven't test driven a TRD Pro, so no idea how the new Fox are.)

In 5th gen world the TRD Pro fox are definitely little stiffer than factory Tokico shocks on SR5/TRD ORP. Could be even the springs that give extra 1in lift that contribute to firm the ride a bit.

I’m not so sure I would trust this dealership with any maintenance in the future.

PDI now means post delivery inspection. By the buyer.
