What should I buy for my 96 4runner? A hood scoop or a snorkel. The stock air intake is placed in a gibberish place and this has led to some problems with dirt and sand, which one is better to deal with this problem?

A hood scoop is no better positioned than the stock intake in the wheel well, and certainly no better for water.

From that perspective, a snorkel is "better."

Do you still have your plastic wheel liners? Those should take care of most of the dust/sand if they are properly installed, and your air intake filter should take care of the rest.

I do not have them, they probably fell off during a trip.

Thing is that snorkels here in my country are like 400 dollars, that's why I've been thinking of 3D printing them.
