Toyota Jamboree this weekend

Headed there this weekend for the first time. Pumped to get nice and dirty and learn a lot. That's all.

I went 2 years ago, it was fantastic. Texas doesnt play around when it comes to off roading, their "easy" courses were like WTF. Great time though and great people as well.

Well that was a ton of fun!!!

Wasn't horrible. This was a level 4 trail called "Sunday Drive"

Two pretty big rock steps on entry. On the left hand side there was a sharp bolder that could do some serious damage to the driver side doors and quarter panel. I picked up some speed at the end just to avoid rocking into it.

This was called "Horseshoe" which is a level 3 trail. It was pretty washed out so the name of the game here was to straddle the crack. Falling in would make the top very difficult since it was chewed up by other rigs.

I don't remember the name of this trail. Got stuck behind a convoy of new drivers here and tried to help them for about an hour. Saw about 10 rigs decide against this obstacle and cut a bypass... I'm not about that so we stacked some rocks and made it happen.

My favorite trail was definitely "Sunday Drive." Not only did it have a pretty wild entry but the cross axle articulation was pretty intense for IFS. My buddy Todd followed us in his beautiful 80 Series. Since I led the pack into the this trail I do not have footage of my rig here. But even Todd in his solid axle 80 series was pretty shaken by this one.

And a bonus video of my spotting a couple buddies through a very off camber climb. My friend was letting his wife drive the rig. She's a hell of a driver and knew when to back off to prevent rolling.

When I did this climb I stuck my passenger side tire into that wall and rode the wall out. This strategy kept the front driver side from lifting as high.

Wouldn't be a proper Jambo without some suspension flex to justify going extended travel. Still loving the Dobinsons setup.

Camping was fantastic too. Props to my buddy Chris for arriving early to secure a secluded spot in the back of the park.

 

Great videos gang! Looks like a good time. I wish i could have gone there for even a day. Oh well, next year.

 

I was there 2 years ago and remember the trails were marked according to difficulty, what level of difficulty were these trails. Great videos and pics bud. You did awesome

 

Most of the videos come from level 3 or 4 trails. Although, that particular video was only a level 2.

The trail had been eroded by rain and made a little 7 foot climb pretty daunting. There was an alternate route around it… but we came there to find obstacles. So we took the harder line.

I’m very glad she did not tip over into that wall. She trusted her instinct to back off. If she would have kept on the gas while turning left it would have rolled for sure.

Moved her over a few inches and told her to turn right, that kept the front driver side from lifting too high and got her through safe.

This was a reference to a previous trail; A black diamond trail at Merus called Starlight… and she three wheeled hard. Very tippy.

Missed that. Yeah excellent driving skills. The wife and I offroad a lot. We did Moab for a week this year but Im not joking when i say this........The off roading at the toyota jamboree is pretty intense. Fun but intense.

 

Agreed. The difference between BMRA trails and anywhere else I've wheeled is the massive potential for body damage around every corner.

Over 2 days my group did every level 2/3 trail out there. On day three we started looking for level 4 tails. "Sunday Drive" is labeled as a lvl 3 in gaia, but the sign on exit was a four diamond. It's about half a mile long, and took three rigs about 1.5 hrs to complete without taking damage.

Last year I did twister, sierra skyview, and scorpion overlook (all 4 diamond trails.) These trails required constant attention. Getting distracted by the GMRS radio, even for a moment, could cause you do collide with a root structure or boulder jutting out into the trail and take some serious body damage. In fact that's exactly what happened to this land cruiser last year. (attached)

The trails I've done in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Arkansas aren't quite like that. I've battled for traction and I've battled gravity. But I didn't spend every waking moment worrying about caving in my doors or quarter panels. BMRA is different.

Possibly. We got stuck behind a couple rigs on Clyde's Ravine and had to turn around. Which entailed backing up for about 1/4 mile in the dark...
I do not remember if a black 470 was in that group.

 

Mustve been a different group. we were a group of 2 beat up 80 series and a red pickup on 38.5s. We didn’t do any trails at night just played around on twister. Good chance we found y’all at some point.

 

It was a lot of fun, and apologies we couldn't connect, @1SilverRunner! This was the first time I made it to Jamboree, but I agree with you completely, I felt there was a higher potential of body damage on some of these trails, than originally rated, due to the heavy rains.

I had a great time though.
