I am in a pickle. I am on an overlanding trip far away from home in my 5th gen 4Runnercamper build. A few days ago I discovered that something made it's way into my camper and started eating my bread, aside of leaving a trail of crap behind itself.

I sat patiently this night, and finally found out who the uninvited guest was. It was a mice. I read about preventative methods, peppermint oil, Bounce dryer sheets, etc. All that is good.

I need a permanent solution for while I travel. If this sucker gut in, then others will come. Where did it get in from? I know that it might have been the air ducts, but where? Anyone here knowledge enough to point me to the right place of potential entrance either through diagram or a photo?

    My plan is:
    - to buy a mouse trap. It is arriving today, and will be picked up from an Amazon locker near by.
    - It seems to go for the bread, so I will place the bread in the trap.
    - I will be leaving the bread out of the camper overnight in some sort of a container on top of the roof.
    - I will buy either a container or a hardy food storage bag for the other food items that are not kept in the refrigerator.
    - I tried tee tree oil in the camper. I had one on hand for other purpose. Its smell is so strong that it even gives me headache. It might be a good idea for storage but not for travel.

Thanks big time. Already looking into this. I have a feeling it was the front ones. My camper has center console partially removed to gain space. The air duck was expose completely, and ironically that is where the bread was storred.

I still can't figure out how it could squeeze thought the front ones. They are completely blocked off. I don't even see a vent hole there.

To get down, it would need to chew through the cabin air filter. I checked it and it is intact.

After close inspection I found the location, thanks for the trail of crap left behind. I will take it apart and look into this further.

I’ve seen small field mice squeeze through openings around 1/2” diameter and under doors with even less gap heights than that. They can jump up to 12”-14” high so they can readily access anywhere under our vehicles.

Since moving to the mountains I’ve found a stash of nuts n things inside the engine’s airbox (under the air filter)
IMG_4847.jpg and chewed up cabin air filter

and some debris just inside the rear vents (which prompted me to do the galvanized chicken wire screening)

That sure us eye opening. Do you have photos of what you have done to the front air vents?

Exactly as described. Did you cover the vent in the air box as well or just the rear and the fronts?

Found what the real problem was. When I was passing battery wires into the cabbin for DC-DC charger, I didn't cover the hole.

I removed the plastic cover from the air vents and found the front air vent hole. It couldn't have been that location because the mice would need to chew through the cabin air filter to get inside.

Now, it is time to go shopping.
