    No kidding!

Flock must be making big money in this area.

We're curious about ownership on a few of these. Some, obviously, are "municipally owned," while some are clearly on private property. But there's a metric doo-doo ton of them around now.

On top of that, what about all the security cameras (both public and private) and dash cams.

Many of these new security cams now have facial recognition software.

Your face will be scanned walking down the street, entering a business, and going to your friends house.

You won't be able to take a shit in a public restroom without someone collecting data on who you are.

Why is additional step of swapping a license plate from a random car around the corner is a meaningful deterrent to theft? Most people won't notice that someone swapped their plates and if they do, there won't be same-day urgency it reporting it.

License plate readers are there because it makes someone money. This money is made by exploiting you. It also creates turn-key system for authoritarianism, because if they can track you, they can also prevent you from going somewhere/anywhere. Write to your politicians and ask them to change laws so it is not profitable to install these everywhere.

Just look at UK as a dystopian example. We don't want that here.

But they're still very effective crime fighting tools (for the most part).

Do you think law enforcement will really give them up?

You can still wear a blue surgical mask on your face to foil these and there are still enough hypochondriacs out there that you don't quite stand out.

This is wrong way to look at this. Law enforcement would like power to arbitrarily detain anyone anywhere without providing justification because it will make their jobs much easier. Society does not want that to be possible because making law enforcement job easy is not as high of a priority as preserving personal freedoms.

With all due respect, I think you're looking at this the wrong way.

In the broader context of tracking and with things trending the way they are, instead of trying to remove tracking devices one by one we should essentially be developing programs that scattershot our location to 100's of different places at once so as to make the tracking data confusing and unreliable. Maybe that already exists......I don't know.

But people can be made scared enough to give up their personal freedoms in the name of some perceived safety.
