Anyone Running BFG KO3(s) on Stock Suspension?

Does anyone have any experience with BFG KO3(s) in 265/70 R17 on stock suspension with XREAS? On road wet performance? Road noise? Rubbing?

 

I always understood that unsprung weight (tires&wheels) rebound after compression was controlled by the shocks internal valve set-up & design.
Stock suspension is designed around stock tires & wheels which are much lighter than KO3. The drivability might suffer with stock shocks and heavy tires.

 

Subjective questions are tough to answer. AT tires will be noisier, but one person’s “slight hum” is someone else’s “loud roar.” As for X-REAS, you’re likely over 150K in an ‘05 so it may be time to think about something else. The “X-REAS delete…” post linked in my sig may be helpful. Read it from the bottom up as I’ve added updates through the years.

 

I used to run K02s on all my off-roady vehicles. I felt it was an all around really great tire, both on road and off. They'd get you out of bed spots off road but at the same time weren't noisy or anything on the highway.

I'm running falken Wildpeaks now just because a little bit cheaper. I can't tell a difference between the two

 

I’m running KO3s on after market suspension and hate to say it, but I do not recommend the KO3. I’ve had nothing but issues with mine since new. I’ve had one tire warrantied by Discount Tire and after 4 attempts at road force balancing, I still cannot get them balanced. The shop had one extra set when they warrantied mine and they had to go through 3 of them to find one that balanced correctly. They will also develop a flat spot when sitting overnight. It’s not a big deal because it will round out after it warms up, but I’ve never had another tire do that after sitting for only 1 night. I’ve owned multiple sets of KO2s without issues.

 

Almost every morning I can feel flat spots the first few miles, seems to be more noticeable with the 4Runner than other vehicles I have owned.

 

What size and type tire are you running?

 

Currently, I have the factory slicks (Bridgestone Duelers, 265/70/r17). And I also have Goodyear Wrangler Ultra Terrain 265/70/r17 on old pro rims. Both seem to do it, even my wife’s Rav4 prime has flat spots in the morning, just not as noticeable.

 

IDK, that sounds like an issue other than tires to me. I had the Michelins on my Arnage road force balanced multiple times before a tire tech brought to my attention that one of my wheels was out of round and that they'd be impossible to balance. To which I was asked why nobody in their organization had told me this before while I was wasting money having the tires rebalanced and my question was met with a resounding shrug. There's just so many things that can cause a vibration at speed and not all of it is old car sh** either. As just one example, Discount Tire might have not torqued you to spec and caused a rotor to warp.

The K02s were such high quality it's really hard for me to believe they would drop down in quality that much for the next iteration while still charging premium prices. Particularly since (at least with the K02s) they sort of held the mantle as the absolute best A/T tire you could buy. But then again, I suppose anything is possible.

 

Only issue with the wheel theory is I originally had KO2s on the same wheels, (mounted those tires onto my 2001 Tundra) and didn’t experience the balance issues until going with the KO3s.

Anyway, just sharing my experience.

 

KO3 in stock size currently only offering load E. Was waiting for the load C version myself and opted for Toyo Open Country AT3’s for now. Only had one quick drive and they are a noticeable improvement over stock P-tires. Toyos road-force balanced well. I’ll try KO3s when they come in load c stock size.

 

Agreed. Just turned over 89K miles. I plan to stick with the X-REAS until it fails.

 

That’s the unicorn of unicorns, an ‘05 V8 4WD with 89K. If the frame is clean, it belongs in the 4R HOF.
